We shoot from inside 6 yards only one third as much as we did 2 years ago.

Even though we take more shots, we fashioned 61 shots within the 6 yard box then, compared to 21 now.

Aerial duels

Not hugely different to last season really but then we didn't play great football then.  Way down on through balls.

Nah but there's definitely a few noticeable ones.

Massive increase in crosses, and a massive drop in short passes and through balls.

Wonder why we draw so rarely under Pardew. Is it because his tactics are rigid and they generally either work well or don't work at all, with little in between? Even last season, when we lost it tended to go very pear-shaped.

Player confidence perhaps?

Possibly. It's something that needs looking at though, we're obviously a bit 'all or nothing' at present. Need to be more resilient, even for the best teams those points gained when you don't play well all add up.

Serves to highlight my theory that we were very lucky last season and a bit unlucky this season.

I think the last two seasons we've been a 50-55 point team that has had two very contrasting seasons.

It's been a big thing for a while, last season we collapsed to heavy defeats on a far too regular basis, this season we have followed that up. I think a big thing is being unable to change a mindset effectively once we have gone behind. We get ragged far too easily, particularly in full back and central midfield areas.

Aye, I think so.

Last season we got a rolll going, no injuries and some good squad additions. Everyone was excited  and we turned draws into wins with our endeavour.

This season it started on more of a knife edge.  There was a real downer at the close of the window when there was no quailty added.  We still drew 5 of the first 10 games ....then we lost Coloccini to a 3 game ban and went on a downward spiral, lost 4 on the bounce...which turned into 10 out of 13.

Confidence is massive.

Can you add chance (shot) conversion both us and opposition?

It's sad enough I've took the time to do Newcastle, I'm not deeing 20 other clubs.

Not sure how i would do against us, but you got me excited you slag...here you are...

Fucking woeful, as you'd expect.

Credence to the fact that the system creates enough, the players just don't convert them.

More down to Jonas crosses probably being counted as shots, and Cabaye and Ba when he was here shooting from every possible angle. Oh and Tiote like Dave said.

I usually don't like stats, but it shows that the 'good football' a lot of people on here suggested we played last season is a myth.

The ball would appear to have been on the deck a lot more mind given the aerial duel statistics.

Tiote takes one, sometimes two, shots a game. Very rarely is he in a position to take more.

As usual, any negative stat is gospel and 'proof' of a negative viewpoint. Any suprisingly positive stat is strewn with contradictions and caution, and couldn't possibly be accurate.
