Proper Belter Songs You Were Forced to Sing at School

Everybody loves a good hymn/school tune. The joy of seeing the projector wheeled out was second to none.

The leaves beginning to turn from green reminded me of my personal favourite:

Also remember 'I was cold I was naked, were you there?' causing much hilarity.

What is YOUR favourite assembly classic?

Growing up, growing up to be,

A caterpillar grows up to be a butterfly

A seed grows up to be a flower

Fish grow fins, to tickle and wriggle and swim

Birds grow beaks to peck and pick

I'm growing up to be me.

That was the best song from primary school. I actually sang it on School Around the Corner. Not sure if the English know what that is.

Hurrah for school!

Hurrah for school!

Dont be late, make a date,

Join with us and celebrate,

See the children, hear the laughter,

As soon as you come through the gate.

Education's what we're after,

Give three cheers, let's celebrate.

Hurrah!

Hurrah!

Hurrah for school!

God is good ( often sang as 'God is gay')

God is good (we sing and shout it)

God is good (we know it's true)

God is good (we no more doubt it)

God is good (we celebrate)

And when I think of his love for me

My heart is full of praise

and I feel like dancing

For in his heart there is room for me

and I run with arms open wide

Definitely Autumn Days. Did everyone else used to yell the line "AND A WIN FOR MY HOME TEAM!" or was that just my school?

One more step along the world I go.

Also, Lord of the Dance always went down well because we liked the line that mentioned being whipped and stripped. I never did know what the fuck a pharisee was though.

Jubilate (often sang as ' Tube of Smarties')

Jubilate, everybody

Serve the Lord in all your ways

And come before His presence singing

Enter now His courts with praise

For the Lord our God is gracious

And His mercy's everlasting

Jubilate, Jubilate, Jubilate Deo

Really resent having to sing religious songs at school and all the non-Christian kids (Asian) having to sit in the canteen like lepers.

That said it was always fun singing that teach the world to sing song when everything kid would emphasize "and furniSHIT with love"  :aww:

YES. Kumbaya was obviously just a chance to sing the Ketsbia song in school anarl.

Remember some song that was 'we shall stand, with our feet on the rock' becoming 'we shall stand with our feet on the cock'. Hilare times. Innovative.

Autumn Days was my jam! Doesn't it have the '... and a win for my home team' line? All the lads used to shout that bit, which gradually got louder and louder. Then we got told to stop, and had to sing it normally. Ruined my childhood.

EDIT: Haha, didn't see the posts above.
