Will homeplugs of a different make recognise each other and work?

Got DEVOLO pass through plug attached to the modem which connects to tv in living room.

I'm going to attempt to attach a TRENDnet plug in the bedroom They are both 200mbps. I'm aware the electric wiring has to be in a loop.

I know on the Devolo ones you can set up encryption in case you believe a neighbour etc might be able to access your loop in some way.

Plugged in the trendnet and they aren't recognising each other. the green lights are all happily on but not working at all. Anyway to reset everything maybe?

Now the original pair have stopped recognising each other! both have two green lights and the centre one that has the little house shape doesn't illuminate. Do they need syncing? Am I right in thinking you sync them by simultaneously pressing the little button on the bottom or should they generally just recognise each other when switched on? They've been working fine for about 2 weeks.

Does a computer using homeplugs show up on a home network?

For instance if I had a computer upstairs using homeplugs would it be able to stream media downstairs to my Xbox or Chromecast like it would if it was connected via wireless or ethernet?

Yes as long they have the same access point, which is a router.

Thanks man, I'll get some ordered.

The house we rent is like a bomb shelter when it comes to wireless and I don't fancy trailing a huge ethernet cable through the house so these sound ideal.

No probs.  Just think of the router being the central point, if everything connects to that then everything connected with it can see each other potentially.
