reinstalation of windows

guys i just got my desktop fixed at last!!! and i have been told to reinstall windows and re do hard drive etcetc, thing is the xp disc i have is not the orig bluewink.gif

 

what do the people in the know recommend, i was thinking about putting windows me on it or even 98, any ideas where i can get hold of these  bluewink.gif pm if need be

I really, really wouldn't put ME or 98 on (especially ME - it's a right bastardisation of an operating system), there are loads of things you'll be taking for granted that won't work very well, if at all. USB stuff for a start...

No, if you use a cd key that other people are using, then you can't get some updates. I know lots of people running xp pro corporate, and you can get all of the critical/security/service pack updates no problem, it's just things like the winxp spyware scanner that you can't.

 

Assuming it's a copy of your old install, and you still have the cd-key, you'll be fine.
