Got a feeling Gyokeres is going to bust in the PL

Just been having that conversation. I think it will be too quick for him. Arsenal have definitely caved into the pressure of getting any named striker without a thought for how they play or if he’ll do the business in the prem.

I’ve got to say I’m massively underwhelmed by Arsenal’s business, Zubimendi excluded. A 27 year old with no top European league experience, a couple of Chelsea rejects and a mid-table midfielder in his 30s. None of them are bad buys standalone, but if that’s the totality of their business then I don’t see it moving them closer to the scousers and if we make 3+ good signings, I see us having a chance to move closer / past them.

Saying all that, they’ll probably win the league now.

Doubt Arsenal are going to pay £40-50m for a backup winger. He's probably going to be with Gyokeres and Saka in a front three, which on paper looks pretty strong.

It’s likely one of Trossard or Martinelli goes and Arsenal will still be signing a LW anyway (Eze main link). Madueke essentially replacing Sterling squad place, where for his sake he’s more favoured to take minutes off Saka.

On paper it’s lacking imo.

I expected them to go with a Rodrygo.

IMO this new CL format and 5 subs requires top teams to need top players on the bench.

PSG are bringing Barcola/Doue off the bench. Liverpool have been bringing on top class attackers off the bench. Chelsea’s quality is deep. So is Man City’s.

I think Arsenal need a Madueke level player that’s not an automatic starter

Unless he’s turned them down I think Arsenal would be mental to go for anyone but Sesko, he feels ready made for them.

You reckon? Thought they needed a goal scorer to finish chances off? Never been impressed with Sesko’s finishing. Does all his best work outside the box IMO.

Quantity you mean.

I don't think they're that great, just a bunch of players who are kinda okay, you know? Average players. They have a ton of average strikers and wingers. If you take out Palmer and Caicedo, what's left? Neto who they say is their best winger got about the same stats as Gordon who we can all agree was awful for large parts of last season.

Yeh but a high average. Or what I would call a high ceiling.

You take out Caicedo and Palmer you get:

Lavia Santos

Neto Enzo Madueke

Jackson

All of these would either start for us or be super important squad players (like Trippier or Barnes).

I actually think all of these could be elite under a Howe like manager.

It’s a talented squad at the least. Very talented.

Obviously for all the money spent you would expect PSG levels of talent and ability. And they don’t have that at all. But that doesn’t make it a Man U level of average squad. Genuinely average PL players. Chelsea are all good talented players in the main. Most would play for other top 8 clubs. Man U’s wouldn’t.

Did we ever show interest in this lad before Man City swooped? Name rings a bell.

You're thinking of the guy at Juve that we supposedly went after as well, before he joined them from Fiorentina.

Khusanov is another who seems to be out of favour there after only signing in January. The other youngster Reis seems to be Pep's preference. Wonder if there's a question we can ask around Khusanov since he was a target before.
