But he supports Man Utd?!

Must be banking on a Garnacho sale to afford a striker? Really do hope they fail to get Europe again this season so they actually face real consequences for their spending when in debt and owing 100s of millions in transfer payments still.

I think if nothing else they'll be a significantly better attacking threat. To your point though, I could see Matheus Cunha having a strop when he realizes his teammates 15th for a reason. I'm not entirely sure how they fix the midfield and defense.

In isolation, these two players are very talented, but I'm not convinced signing both was a necessary priority. I've no idea what their arrival means for someone like Amad Diallo, who I thought looked quite good last season in amongst the team's overall struggles.

Then there are the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Mason Mount, Joshua Zirkzee, Rasmus Hojlund, Chido Obi who are all impacted in some form or another (I threw Fernandes in there because I can't see him playing in the two man midfield that Ruben Amorim seems to favor). Perhaps Amorim's plan is to play Matheus Cunha through the middle, but you can bet him and Mbeumo are on to start whenever possible.

I think Hojlund has had enough chances to prove himself but I don't see how they get rid of him. Zirkzee might actually thrive with more talented players around him, but that doesn't feel like the expectation. Chido Obi likely needs a loan of some kind unless he hits form in pre-season and pushes his way past the likes of Zirkzee and Hojlund. Then there's Mason Mount just sitting there. I loved Mount when he was breaking through at Vitesse and Derby. I totally got the hype and why people thought he might be that heir to Frank Lampard. When I saw him last season he look bereft of confidence and what little agility he had in his younger days.

There's £170m worth of player with no obvious space or future in the team. I know it's spilled milk at this point, but christ alive, they do seem to just be funneling money into the furnace season after season (even if I think these two players are actually good).

Seems like the plan is indeed to play Fernandes in a midfield two with either Casemiro or Ugarte. Everyone knows that's a weakness, but other areas of the squad needed sorted first. Can see Mbeumo or Cunha playing up top at some point if we don't sign another striker.

Amad will play RWB. He's been at his best there.

Onana (Bayindir)

De Ligt (Mazraoui)

Maguire (Heaven)

Yoro (Martinez/Shaw)

Amad (Dalot)

Dorgu (Leon)

Fernandes (Mainoo)

Casemiro (Ugarte)

Cunha (Mount)

Mbeumo (Zirkzee)

Hojlund (Obi)

Still needs a keeper, midfielder and a striker.

It’s a team that has more legs in it, but I can see it being same issues. Full backs penned back because a midfield two is easy to overrun, meaning Diallo / Dorgu deep in their own half which I’ve not seen from either be good defensively, and front three isolated dealing needing to manage attacks on their own.

Will yield better results as Cunha / Mbeumo will pluck something from their was on occasions, but nothing about Amorim set up convinces me it will ever work.

I would genuinely be signing an experienced striker like DCL for free and then investing everything else that we have into a midfielder with legs.

I'm sure there's a plan though. Actually heard Ndidi's name mentioned a lot recently. Not sure how to feel about it.

That central midfield still looks one-paced to me. I'd be surprised if it can manage the workload of supporting attacks and defensive transitions. I was very surprised when you signed Manuel Ugarte. I'd seen nothing from his time at PSG to suggest he was an elite midfielder, let alone one suited to the rigours of the Premier League.

That's interesting about Amad. I know Amorim used wingers as wingbacks at Sporting which explains why he's doing it again here. I've always been fond of Dalot, but at 26, he's probably not getting much better. I would hope this season sees an uptick from Dorgu too. He looked painfully raw last season.

I assume the priority is a goalkeeper given Onana is pretty average at his primary job?

Dorgu looked a mess, is good enough to be first choice?

Generally I think Manchester have decent quality but seem to lack some kind of vibes that create a functioning team.

Chelsea now dropped their asking price by £22m for Nkunku. Available for roughly £43m as per The Athletic.

He's flopped in England unfortunately, maybe the can find some mug to give them 43m but I doubt a PL club does.

Incredible player (pre injury anyway), wouldn’t want to take a £43m chance on him now though.

I actually think he was probably the one of the best #10/SS in the world before Chelsea.
