Why would we pay £35m+ for what would be a third choice right winger? I get that we all want signings, but I'd prefer ones that make sense.

The same reason we bought Hall for £35m to have him as third choice LB for a season

I like it when we buy elite talent when the market opportunity presents itself

Murphy is 30 in a none psr world or Chelsea model its good succession planning and buying the potential to make money on the deal at that price if he forfills his potential..

Saying all that agree with all that needs to be done in alread light of bodies it makes no sense.

Still feel if it goes well for him the big 6 just pay 60m or 70m for him in a few years.

We loaned Hall because it was a position we needed a new first choice in as we only had Targett and Burn, neither of which were good enough in that role.

£35m+ for a player who likely wouldn't play, nor have a clear pathway to the first team isn't a good use of our money when we've huge gaps in the squad to fill, we're not Chelsea and don't have the luxury of the carefree approach to signing players they have.

He'll be longer term a CM/CAM, where he spent majority of his youth career.

Considering Willock by start of next season shouldn't be here, Dibling would be a superb opportunistic buy to have integrated into the CM fold, with him and Miley the young ones moving forward and club then signing an experienced guy next summer.

What if we just dont think he's very good?

/ Don't have the finances to stockpile our wing areas with expensive youngsters who have everything to prove

Dibling at CM? Not at all sure about that, pretty sure he never played there for Southampton. Would prefer a proper CM.

He's certainly not a CM in accordance with the Newcastle profile for those positions.

Played advanced CM on a few occassions. He's not your typical deeper CM, but then if we've got Bruno, Joelinton, Tonali for that, we probably want someone who can play ahead of them in an attacking shape.

He's young enough to mould into the CM/CAM profile a club would want long term. It's getting to OTT prices, but if we're looking at £45m mark for a CM, I really don't think you can go wrong with Dibling. Always have been and always will be, a massive advocate of this current English generation. The talent pool is an absolute joke.
