One season in championship ffs. If we had an Adam Armstrong right now, we’d be getting that after a 20 goals season in L1.

Really need to beef up the youth side and get good loans for them, because that’s the real PSR cheating.

He wants to go to Bayern. Have we not learnt from the Sesko saga?

Were you too eager to jump in two footed to actually read what I wrote. If was suggesting Bayern have moved away from going for him and going for Nkunku so if that was the case he can want to go to Bayern all he wants they wouldn’t be signing him

Who says we even wanted those dudes?

Our recruitment has always been spot on. I don’t even blink when we “miss out” on dudes now. They saw something they didn’t like and moved on to the next one, regardless of what we all thought on here.

Early days maybe, and we havent gotten many wrong. But, look at our squad, its very thin and the 11 lacks cartel quality in some areas. The squad we could have ( not all but pick and choose)

Pope (don't know goalies too well, don't understand why we dallied on Trafford)

Defence

Ashby       Zabyaarmi (24m)       Milenkovic (15mil)       Kerkez (18mil)

Tino          Hjuisen (10m?)           Jair Cunha (10mil!)      Ruggeri (17mil * Went to Atletico)

Trips         Schar/Thiaw               Burn/Botman               Hall

Midfield

Fer Lopez (25mil) Baleba (30mil) --->Lamine Camara (15mil)-Raw, but would easily fit into our midfield, especially with Champions league, eventual successor to Joelinton. Leicester Arab young lad (25ish)

Joelinton, Bruno, Tonali, Miley, Crocked Willock

Strikers:

Guessand (25mil)

Osula

Isak

Ideas- Tom Rothe 10-15 mil? - German Left back, 20, Midfield, composed, great left foot, good ball carrying, dribbling, hard worker. Eddie could possibly train him to play inside right. If not, still useful where he is. 10-15mil?

Martin Baturina 25mil?- Playmaker, scores goals, carries ball well, very good at interplay with teammates, something we badly lack at times, as well as a threat through the middle.

Lamine Camara - 30-35mil - probably wouldn't get him for that, but seems like after a couple of years he's taken over from Joelinton and is the level of Caceido, Baleba, provides a threat in attack as well.

We were willing to spend 60 on Guehi last summer. Could have signed Milenkovic, Hjuisen and Camara for less, and I doubt i went over in a year with wages. Forest signed Cunha for 10 mil. He looks like he's got everything to excel here.

Most Importantly. Center backs and central midfielders are the positions where a smart team can often buy a lad for 10-20 million and sell for 50-70(center backs) 50-120 (midfielders), and its not as hard as doing it with a winger or forward.

We don't catch the cartel by spending heavily on good if not great players because they played premier league. Selling Isak for 150m (He's worth 170 plus add ons, has to be) isn't going to be out 'Coutinho signing' if Eddie is unwilling to take the risks. People say we dont want to be Brighton. We will be Brighton if we don't over perform relative to our spending power. We are getting Brighton'd against our will right now. If we sign more undervalued players and pack our squad out, as we should have done the last few years; it didnt take much money to make us better, we may have convinced a top striker to join. At the least we'd have a stronger squad, some relationships with clubs and a better idea of undervalued strikers in Europe. If we can't buy a potentially top forward now, find those goals at the best price, whether through Wissa, Guessand and strengthening other areas, a  midfield capable of scoring more, wings scoring more etc.

Thankfully that's exactly what we've been doing. It's the way forward with the current rules, for sure.

If it was "two footed" I'd have said 'you' not "we". That isn't the situation. He's asked Stuttgart to negotiate a transfer to Bayern. There is no bigger pull than Bayern to a German player. He wants to go to Bayern, maybe he has to stay an extra season and gets the move next summer.

My point was a hypothetical point that Bayern were no longer interested tho

Sorry that's not my point.

He's their top scorer with nearly 1 in 1 and played most games last couple seasons, with 2 years left on his contract.

Why on earth would they be paying him to leave   it's like Nottingham Forest paying Chris Wood to leave.

Further to this - Marco Verratti just joined Al-Duhail on a free transfer (from Al-Arabi) when he still had a year left, played most games and cost £40m+. They just absolutely don't care about money which is inflating prices.

If you look at all the players they signed 2 years ago in that big push for transfers, there's loads of weird moves happening. Literally none of them are going up in value.

Has the Saudi league received a noticeable uptick in interest since they embarked on their spending spree?

yes, the Saudi Pro League has seen a notable surge in interest since the big-money investment two years ago—and here's how that uptick has played out:

---

Broadcaster Reach & Global Exposure

TV Viewership: As of September 2024, the Saudi Pro League (SPL) reached over 200 million viewers across 160 countries, averaging three broadcast matches per week .

Media Deals & Revenue: The 2024–25 season generated a projected $80.1 million in domestic media revenue, with international broadcasting done through platforms like DAZN in the UK, Germany, Austria, and SSC in the MENA region .

---

Commercial Growth & Fan Engagement

Massive Revenue Jump: In the opening of the 2023–24 season, SPL’s revenue soared by 650%, fueled by sponsorships and global exposure .

Sponsorship Boom: The league saw a 75% increase in sponsorship deals, becoming the third most profitable league globally in sponsorship terms .

Social Media Expansion: The league added around 1.5 million new social media followers and garnered over 150 million video views in the early season weeks .

---

Attendance & Matchday Atmosphere

Initial Surge: Early in the 2023–24 season, the first six rounds saw attendance rise by 25%, totaling approximately 440,000 fans .

Sustained Growth: Over the full 2024–25 season, total attendance reached 2,556,572, averaging 8,355 per match .

Record Crowds: The highest single-match attendance was 58,117 for an Al-Ittihad vs. Damac game .

While still far from European leagues like the Premier League (which averages around 40,000), attendance has nonetheless shown meaningful improvement .

---

International Profile & Infrastructure

Global Prominence: The SPL’s aggressive recruitment of stars like Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, Benzema, and others significantly raised its global profile and brand awareness .

Increased Investment: Clubs poured nearly $1 billion into transfer fees in summer 2023 alone .

Strategic Shift Toward Youth: More recently, the league has begun focusing on younger talent, with more sustainable transfers and a youth development emphasis .

---

A Balanced Take

Impressive Growth: Without a doubt, the league’s strategies—especially since late 2022—have paid off in global visibility, commercial valuation, and fan engagement.

Ongoing Challenges: That said, the league still lags in in-stadium atmosphere, fan culture depth, and credibility compared to Europe’s elite—though the trajectory is upward .
