Hoarding talent? Look at how many of our academy players are playing for other teams in the Prem and Football League.

It's one method among many, yeah. And your response to it just alludes to another method. As I say though, not arguing with you, it's a waste of time.

Whats the deal with Nkunku? I thought he was the next best thing - is he sh*t?

Think his career has been derailed by injuries and he doesn’t suit the physicality of the premier league. He’s a really good player or was before the injuries

No one's arguing mate, it's a forum - for conversations.

If you can't handle the opinion of others it might not be the best place for you.

Been here 20+ years. We're disagreeing, I'm just saying that imo it's a subject that's probably not worth debating/arguing, because I'm not going to change my mind on it and I'd bet you'd say the same too, so neither of us would get anything out of it.

To be fair, I know they spend a fair whack - as do others btw - but Pep/City prefer to have a smaller squad. They've consistently sold homegrown players, many English, and plenty are full internationals now or feature regularly in the Premier League.

Off the top of my head Palmer, Rogers, Delap, Lavia, Tosin. Now McAtee. There's shitloads, I don't agree that they hoard talent. They'd sooner sell than loan it seems, even if the buy-back is essentially a loan really. Surely selling them is better than 8 year deals and loan farming?

It's a little bit of a myth this. The squad is stacked. Not 1 for 1 exactly - there is no natural RB and only 1 out and out striker but he has players that can play multiple positions in crazy depth. And he has the best academy in England to fall back on if needed:

Trafford

Ortega

Akanji

Nunes

Dias

Stones

Ake

Khusanov

Ait-Nouri

Gvardiol

Kovacic

Rodri

Gundogan

Reijnders

Nico Gonzalez

Bernardo Silva

Foden

Haaland

Doku

Cherki

Marmoush

Oscar Bobb

Would expect two from Stones / Ake / Akanji / Kushanov to leave by end of window, especially if O’Reily stays. Then one of the CMs (Kovacic or Gonzalez), on top of one of the wingers (Savinho likely, not listed).

It’s usually a squad of 17 outfield players Pep likes to work with, with a couple of emerging youths.

Anyone that leaves will be replaced in the squad though. I didn’t list Ederson or Savinho and I’ve got 22 players.

In the CL final they won the bench included Foden, Walker, Julian Alvarez, Mahrez, Laporte, Ortega, Cole Palmer, Rico Lewis. Oscar Bobb and Ake were injured - they also had Phillips on the bench.

That’s a 20-man squad minimum for 10 spots.

His squad’s are massive in quality and depth. He’s a bit like Howe in the sense he would prefer to play Bernardo Silva in 3 different positions before playing Cole Palmer but that doesn’t mean the squad is small.

I'm still getting my head around how you can get a big money move to The league and within 12 months you can be told that you're not wanted and will be sold for maximum profit. The squad turnover is mind numbing.

Traditional squad building logic would say that the more consistency the better. Now churn seems to be the name of the game.

That’s a squad that’s got youth though. Palmer / Lewis / Bobb fringe players.

The principle is he likes squads small in full international terms. The youth/fringe players can train and it not be an issue if they get 0 mins. Likes of Stones etc. doing same is.

None of the defenders or CM leaving by end of summer won’t be replaced. The talk is Rodrygo for Savinho if that happened, but that’s probably with an eye on next season as B.Silva is leaving.

12 months later Cole Palmer would win Player of the Year and have 40+ G/A in a single season. He made 25 appearances that season. Pep treating a 21 year-old Cole Palmer like Emile Krafth is his own.
