Semenyo to Man City official now. Sad we missed that boat.

According to ESPN he's eligible to play against us in the Carabao Cup. Suppose at least he now can't play against us in the FA Cup.

Great article in the athletic on Semenyo.  His rise through the pyramid, his attitude and physicality is extremely Howe-coded. Surprised we weren’t after him earlier.

We asked in the summer they wanted too much.

Maybe we should have pushed the boat out in the summer. For the sake of 10-15 million it looks like false economy now.

Long overdue that they make it official tbh, but have to say it was some top-tier shithousery by Man City to pull-back putting pen to paper on Jan 2nd so Semenyo would kit up for Bournemouth against Arsenal to give them a better chance at getting something from that fixture

Weren't we linked with him over a year ago?

Quite sure it was met with criticism by the super scouts on here who have a better eye for talent than our manager.

How could they have wanted too much when he had a release clause?

Signed a new contract after the summer that included the release clause.

He's another pace merchant. Be interesting to see how he does in a possession based team. I feel like he's best suited to a counter attacking system.

If someone like us went in for Semenyo in the summer then Man City would have stepped in and matched or outbid them and outwaged them. They can afford to do that even if the signing doesn’t work out.

Man City won’t have just decided in the last couple of months that they wanted to try and get Semenyo. He’s been hot PL property and they’ll have been tracking him the same as we were. And speaking to his agent to tell him they’re interested. We’d have been pissing in the wind by making an approach.

I don't think he is. He's direct, shoots lots. Good ball striking and movement. Not sure he is that fast.

I mean, vast majority of their recent business has been that approach, even if they got Guehi this month it would be same.

We could’ve made the move in summer, but the price point we’re looking at £70m, I don’t think it’s worth it. Different for Man City to drop these sums, because they can turf out whoever for good fees and write off any other losses, and still spend.

Guehi, Semenyo etc are some of the most sought after players in the league. Every club in the league knows all about them and the ones that represent a step up from Palace or Bournemouth will be watching them closely.

Biggest chance we have is if none of the cartel clubs fancy them because they have good enough players for those positions already or priorities to buy into other positions etc

As soon as one of those clubs is in then more often than not we’re fucked. They can risk the transfer fees and they can smash us on wages and they’ve all got trophy cabinets dripping in silver.

Now and again we’ll get lucky and a player like that will buy into our project. But it’ll be a rarity for now.

Hence all the alleged failures over the summer. We’re game fishing with the big boys but they’ve got chum and we’ve got maggots.
