Other clubs' transfers

More of that continental value.

Needing a team rebuild this summer after what they spent last summer is wild. Suppose the rest of us in the league will have to make do with player sales and a net spend below £100m.

£60m for a 20 year old from the French league is as mad as when Man Utd paid similar for Yoro and he’s been a disaster so far.

Hopefully the same goes for this one too. Carr, Ashley and Pardew would be mortified with the sums being paid to the French league in 2026.

A PL team signing Adam Armstrong is the most 'preparing for the Championship' signing ever like.

Reckon he'll look abysmal and score 1 PL goal between now and the end of the season before notching a healthy 16 next year on their way to promotion.

Has he even been any good in the Championship this season?

Think he made him captain when he came in, didn't he?

Feels a bit odd he's gone back in for him as my recollection was that he was absolutely crap in that relegation season apart from that weird final day against Spurs when it was all over.

Was a result when he had a few average-decent games in the Euros so we got £35m for him, mind.

£60million for a young player with barely a season under his belt in Ligue 1. Heavens to Betsy.

If I knew any better I'd say that the cartel clubs are happy to inflate the market beyond the reaches of the likes of us. That's even more than what Man Utd paid for Yoro a couple of years ago, who is no more than a work in progress.

Yorkie man, you do know better than that. They’re not deliberately paying more to raise the baseline prices .

Seems a lot of money but presumably they’re fighting off interest from every big club in Europe. They obviously need a CB to replace VVD and build the defence around and I guess they figure he’s a sure thing.

I didn't say they were doing it deliberately but they might recognise the silver lining of paying through the nose. It completely distorts the market.

Doubt it as Saints have been absolutely shite.

rivals wont stop spending big. expect big summer from City, Man Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal again. if Villa get into CL then they will add some quality too.

us with not getting into CL wont have transfer kitty unless we sell 1-2 of our best players but then we need to replace them with just as good instead of actually adding and improving the squad to reduce the gap. which as last window showed we struggle with as we effectively replaced Murphy's pretty good G+A with Elanga's poor output etc.

PSR is working wonders as planned to keep out clubs unless there is unexpected dropoff from Sky 6.

I bet Arsenal, City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Man Utd wouldnt not mind them sharing top5 in most years with 5th almost always being a CL place too. and they will imo as they need really poor managerial performance not to be in top5 if other 15 sides are limited with PSR.

You can't keep coming out with this line whenever you've dropped £200m+ on attacking players in the summer and they barely have double figure goal involvements between all three of them. That's on the manager,.

We also missed out on about 7 attacking players who went to clubs who pay higher wages, as well as losing our best player to one of those clubs. Give it a rest man

Yeah, nailed it really. When the 3-4 top players on our list go to Chelsea, Liverpool & Man Utd who have the PSR power to blow us out of the water in terms of wages, and then have the power to spend £110m plus to unsettle and then sign our one elite player, this argument is 100% valid.

The benevolence of the modern footballer is really overlooked. They get passed around for extraordinary money and then entertain us for free. It's remarkable.

Wissa - £140k

Woltemade - £130k

Ramsey - £120k

Elanga - £100k

You'd think these lads are on £20k a week the way you boys get on.

You pay big fees and big wages.

Well if you mean being perceived as a 'bigger club', that's basically the same thing as having more financial power, so I'm not sure we've moved on the argument.

They are a bigger club, it’s not even perceived.

Man U pay roughly a million pounds a week more in gross wages than we do FFS. I know wages data isn't exact, but that's enough for 10 players on 100k each

Our wage bill is about 8th.
