Or Washington Nissan factory as it was known for years after its inception until they got so insecure about that they had it changed, yet graciously let the wildfowl park over the road, further south and closer to Sunderland remain in Washington.

Not so much asserting relevancy as letting the baby have its bottle

When some of them ‘amusingly’ refer to it as ‘Ponteland Airport’ when it’s actually in Woolsington.

Can’t even get that right

Their fascination with the need to be landing aeroplanes in the city centre to justify the name is hilarious.

Yes, the Airport is fully inside the City Boundary, in the Woolsington area of Newcastle . . . they all "know" that, I'm sure!

Toronto’s airport is actually in Mississauga, not Toronto, but is named as Toronto’s airport because it serves Toronto.

All of London’s major airports are not within the city of London.

Stansted is closer to Cambridge than it is London, but it’s still called London Stansted.

The only real major international airport that is actually within a city centre is possibly Las Vegas, and that’s because the airport predates the city.

The old Hong Kong one was always great, flying past the tower blocks and washing lines!

Sickening attack on the Aeroparque Jorge Newberry, the Aeroporto Santos Dumont and many others by the correspondent for Canadian airports there.

Just had a glance over at the mackem forum fully expecting a mass cry of agreement in the name change. However, surprisingly the majority were saying it was a stupid idea (plenty of ponteland talk and what boundaries the airport lies in though). If even the most anti anything Newcastle people are thinking it’s a joke, then that really sums this up.

Someone should post this onto their idiotic forum . . .

The article is from the early 1990s, when a small part of the Airport encroached into Northumberland. That area was incorporated into the City at that point.

In the late 1990s I worked with the accountant who actually pays the Airports Business Rates Bill, and he paid it all to the City.

That's a really good find, especially nice to see recognition of where the regional capital is, as if we didn't already know.

I think we (Northumberland) should be due some compensation though for losing an airport and yet more land to our southern neighbours. I'd accept Gosforth or wouldn't mind our former exclave where the old county court/HQ is next to Bridge Hotel. Although Northumberland Airport sounds canny.

Terrorising staff when robbing a bookie seems par of the course. Can't hold that against Max Power if he's been asked to give a reference for someone looking to hire a robber really.

A. Johnson, aye he is a nonce, but he’s a good nonce!

The airport, like all the major 'Vegas Strip' hotels, aren't in Las Vegas either but in Paradise. [/pedantry]
