Guest Howaythetoon
Goodfellas for the millionth time. Absolute class. Not sure if it is my fave mob film though. Pesci man, he is brutal Goodfellas>Godfather imo. Possibly cos I can never to sit through either of the decent Godfathers. Aye, I liked the first Godfather movie but the others were not as good. Casino is probably my fave mob movie, although stylistically Goodfellas is as good as it gets.
BlufPurdi
Star Wars - The Last Jedi I've no idea how this will go down. To the best of my knowledge it seems to be getting ripped apart, from fans anyway, but I thought this was fantastic. A bit too jokey at times, but some of them worked. Definitely also being a bit too over the top with the must have strong female heroes, but doesn't actually bother me, it just seems too obvious. But great film, don't care what anyone says. Heard the Han Solo one is really crap though, or should I give it a shot?

samptime29
Game night. Enjoyed it, pretty funny at times. Not sure it would hold up on 2nd watch as much tho. 7/10 I don't know if this movie caught me at a good time or something, but we watched this a few weeks back and were in kinks. Especially her trying to remove the bullet and the dry heaving/wretching. :lol; Aye, that bit was class.

The only major gripe I have with it is, it trashed the mystery of the first one. Who is Snoke? Doesn't matter, deed. Heavy suggestions Rey parents were some sort of heroes, potentially Jedi(s) - Nah, fuck that, they're just cunts. And I don't like the way they're just recasting everything, out with the old, in with the new. Are younger generations not able to appreciate older heroes or something? They could have kept Luke on for a bit, surely, Yoda style, a wee nod to older fans. I dare say he'll pop back as the ghost, but would have preferred he wasn't just dead and potentially written out. We've new heroes now, yay! But with that weighing in my mind, that's how good I thought the movie was, as I could accept it. Just a bit annoying, and can definitely see why sad ass fans are getting in a twist.

Kimbo
Nightcrawler is on BBC2 tonight at 10pm, for anyone who hasn't seen it. Nightcrawler is a fantastic movie, one of the best i've seen in recent years. The Last Jedi however is not, I saw it recently and it was just a mess, with a bad story and weak characters. It felt like a story created by a committee, each member wanting their own thing in there. I rate it below the prequels, even the Phantom Menace. They've got a big job of salvaging this trilogy, the first film was just average.

Kimbo
The prequels atleast had some lightsaber battles, some decent bad guys, and some decent good guys. I'm not even sure what's going on in these films, it seems to just be a slow chase through space involving a small group of rebels. Are we supposed to believe that if they get away they win somehow? Even though there only seems to be a couple hundred of them. Or will the woman that picked up a lightsaber and has had zero training save the day? It's absolute nonsense. BlufPurdi
I don't disagree with the essence of what you're saying, Kimbo. I was sitting there almost perplexed at times watching it. So much of it felt like a typical filler episode - Finn and Rose's little jaunt with a completely pointless, if somewhat enjoyable cameo from del Toro. Some of the humour was great, the first bit was alright but they stretched it just too far and ended up feeling like I was watching a Spaceballs scene and it over did it with nearly every attempt. However, it is not worse than the prequels, and don't really accept it's shit. They're just rejigging it all, new heroes for a new generation of kids, clearly bending what were the 'laws' of the force. I've long stopped watching it with any sort of serious appreciation for what it once was.

samptime29
Watched Starred Up last night. Gripping film, excellent peformance from Jack O'Connell. Was really impressed with him. The Governor is a bit one-dimensional, but I thought the ending worked well. 8/10.

I love that film, even if it isn't usually anywhere close to the conversation.
Sima
AMPAS to introduce a 'Best Popular Film' category to honour films that aren't so well received by your standard Oscar critics but deserve recognition. Black Panther to walk this category if it is introduced in time for next year. There has been Oscar buzz around it anyway trying to repel the controversy currently around the Academy and for it's strong black message but this makes it a shoe-in imo if this new category is in place. BlufPurdi
Three Billboards blah blah. Great film, like seriously loved it but fucking hell I was really pissed off with the ending. I've come to accept it, but I looked at the time just as they were getting in the car and thought, "must be a good 20 minutes left, they need to get this cunt", then BAM, credits. McDormand is compelling in everything she does. Not enough respect for her, even though she's widely respected. If that makes sense.
Sima
Aye, she's great. All the Hollywood fawn over Meryl Streep when Frances McDormand is better. 'Hey, Fuckhead!'
