He's neat, quick, controls it well and looks to move the ball forward constantly. But his actual ability on the ball is generally dreadful. Obviously we've got to be encouraged by Longstaff but he's a long way off the finished product; the Hayden situation isn't worth a great deal of thought - he's alright at the total basics but he'll be gone soon so whatevs. Shelvey's unreliable and Diame is limited. In a world where Rafa was allowed to build the club properly, that position should be top of the agenda, regardless of our limitations at full-back or wherever else. £30m on a proper, influential CM improves your team immeasurably.
