Mike Ashley (former owner) (still alive)

Recommended Posts

We were ideal for him. What should have been and usually was nailed on PL funds for very little investment, guaranteed crowds around 50k, big profile, plenty of eye-balls on us and still attractive to some because of what went before him. Sheff Wed have none of that.

All its got going for it is that it couldn't get any worse. If they were a middling second tier club he'd be as bad for them as he was us given his need to carve money out of a much smaller operation.

Mike Ashley is not a fit and proper person to own a football club. We know this better than anyone.

He isn’t.  But then, neither are the vast majority of them.  I think I remember our current lot ducked out of even taking the test …

Fucking hell, cruel to up this thread so close to Christmas - thought he'd croaked and we'd all got an early present.

Aye I think so @SteV, something to do with the t's and c's of their administration.

The creditors have to receive so much of a percentage of their debt to avoid the penalty. A bid below £30m means they will fall short of receiving that. The main creditor is the former owner.

So that would be a great way for him to show he’s really committed to the achieving the best possible outcome for the club, and not just swooping in on a distressed asset.

I wonder if he’ll up his bid….

Spoiler

Fucking hell.

Tbf his aim probably will be to get them promoted.

Free advertising in League One wouldn’t really seem worth the hassle, even in a fairly big stadium.

Kind of feel sorry for them in truth. Years of Chansiri being an absolute wrong'un potentially leading to them seeing Ashley as salvation. Also this false belief he's a good businessman and can bring in commercial value or adequate infrastructure or that he would want to spend enough to get them promoted as opposed to leveraging a debt against them like a noose for his entire tenure and making them rot further from the inside out. Maybe he'll bring Dennis Wise in and all will be fine.

Be interesting to see how he tackles this, we all know hes a miser but will he invest early to gain promotion to the PL so he can get his tat emporium on the centre stage again? Maybe Wednesday fans would be happy to be a yoyo club after years in the doldrums, its certainly an improvement on what they've suffered.
