So apparently he had hired an analyst outside of the club to review his clips and to improve on areas of his game, as under Bruce the analysts didn't have time to do so ... of course. Even did work to prepare for Howe's style once the news broke he would be coming in. No wonder he started off so well.

I don't think you need specialist sports analysts to pinpoint his flaws. His work outside the area is fine IMO, but he needs to be attacking the box in the penalty area. He just doesn't think like an instinctive striker.

His willingness to get the ball back for the team was fantastic. Like i mentioned before, this guy will be Diame mkII (with extras)

I have to admit, i started to doubt him over the last few months, i did always think there was a player in there but doubted we'd see it.

My doubts were misplaced, as we're going to find out slowly but surely, a lot of this team were sinking to the bottom of a river with a Steve Bruce shaped cement block tied around their ankles.

Fair play to Joelinton. I'm a fickle fucker obviously but after his cameo against Brighton and that performance at the weekend, I'm really starting to root for him and, where previously I'd happily have seen him peddled on January 1st, I hope we keep going with him at least until the summer. Really pleasing that, by all accounts, he has the ground fully behind him as well - his effort clearly being recognised.

Laughable obviously that nothing meaningful was being done to nurture the £40million investment in-house, but that's Steve Bruce for you. I don't really use the phrase 'stealing a living' because it's probably unfair most of the time, but Bruce is easily the one for whom it most applies. I don't know if we've ever had - certainly a manager - who was so obviously phoning it in. He couldn't give a fuck about making it work then had the temerity to snap at all and sundry for daring to question his performance. Utter fucking arsehole.

Never was one to write off any of our players under the management teams we've had in our past but with Joelinton I gotta put my hand up and say at no point had I ever felt he was good enough until last Saturday.

Hope he continues to prove me wrong.

The full article is really good and worth reading. It details the kind of things they have been looking at working on. A lot of it was defensive schemes and pressing patterns. I think analysts can also help with some decision making, positions to take up during build up play etc. There's loads of things you can continue to review and improve on.

Eddie Howe himself has even said he produces individual video breakdowns for players with tips on areas of improvement, and so I'm sure he'll be thrilled that Joelinton has already been working on this having paid someone himself to assist him. It's really very impressive to be honest. Happy for him that his desire to work and improve will now be backed by the new manager. Very good things to come for him.

It's so impressive if he really has tried to work on his game like this.

That attitude makes me really warm to him and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he gets a chance and then takes it to prove himself.

Yes, it's only one game.

But it's still exciting to see what some of these players might be capable of when they're not being coached by a completely and utterly incompetent lazy hopeless dunce.

Thanks I will read the full article later. It gives me goosebumps to read of a manager who analyses his players down to those details with the intent of improving them. Everything I learn about Howe impresses me more and more.

Love that. Giving himself extra homework to make this work.

Ah fuck, little bit of feel good for nufc kicked in there in the back of my head. Need to cut that out or it'll turn in to a nasty habit.

Read the last few pages and I don't think self-confidence gets talked about enough in pro sports. Joelinton has been absolutely hammered for the two and a half years he's been here. When you are comfortable playing, time just seems to be in slow motion compared to when you are low on confidence and scared to make mistakes and the game seems to be played on fast forward. Footballers are humans and some players just are mentally stronger than others. Could see he looked more comfortable with some of the nice touches he had Saturday and hopefully he can build on that performance.

Joelinton has had it rough like.

The price tag wasn't his fault, the being olayed in a system that doesn't suit him and sometimes out of position wasn't his fault. The lack of training and coaching wasn't his fault. The abuse he was receiving wasn't rigjt or fair, and subsequently has confidence and desire took a hiding.

That for me was when I perhaps joined those in their frustration with Joelinton, those games where he looked like he couldn't give a shit and where he moped about.

I guess that's human nature, we can all say how that amount of money would motivate us regardless but the fact of the matter is none of have or will be in a position to prove it. Bad management and poor performance breeds negativity.

I don't think we have a £40million player here and frankly that deal seems off to me, but I do think you'll see twice the player than before, now and I will love absolutely every minute of that lad enjoying it. He's a grafter like, and hard work is all I ask.

Thought he was very good on Saturday like. Would love him to come good like.

Same - You could never knock his effort - the lad alway gives 100%.  Hopefully he will thrive working with someone who actually coaches.

Was that his first goal at SJP in front of a full crowd by the way? Nice to see him celebrate properly.

I believe it was.

I always believed that there was a player in there and I think he can turn his career around with us as Saturday has shown. The problem with the £40m price tag is that you’d expect the player coming in would be the main man, but he’s not going to be that person and will still be having those dips and periods of shit

His dips and periods of shit lasted over two years.  Saturday's performance was a one off.  However I hope he proves me wrong (he won't) and goes on an amazing run.

I really want him to do well, and I'm so thrilled he had a good game on Saturday. Very weirdly, I had a dream he'd score, and he won me some money. Yes, I place bets based off of dreams. Anyway, managed to derail my own thought process, but my point is, I think he can succeed.
