Is there a way to find out the age of those people who have tested positive?

It was reported this morning that the average age of infections at the moment is 29, the lowest in the whole pandemic.

So the unvaccinated which could be seen as a good thing (if there even is such a thing during a pandemic) and not those already jabbed, so we know the vaccines are working.

Let's just shut down society forever.

Or just slow down for a couple of months until we get to herd immunity.

Possibly. Hypothetically what do we do if it turns out we can't reach a herd immunity threshold with the new dirty foreign variant?

Do we start jabbing bairns of a virus that is no threat to them in order to protect the codgers?

Yes, we could add it to the many vaccines children already get.  Like how no-one's at risk of getting polio anymore, but we keep taking vaccines so we can retain herd immunity.

The idea of holding mass indoor events still amazes me given where we are in the rollout. We've gone from not being able to have a pint in a beer garden to 'stand up if you love the darts' in less than two months. This is Johnson's 4th July 2020 all over again.

But polio is a disease that affects kids in particular, no? I'm not anti-vax, but was always under the impression kids got jabbed for various things because it was to their overwhelming personal health benefit and not doing so was basically negligence on the parents/guardians/state's behalf.

Covid jabs for kids is obviously clearly a step in a different direction. It's giving kids a jab for something that doesn't affect them, in order to achieve herd immunity for the benefit of the wider society and other people.

Not saying I'm completely against it. But not entirely convinced either.

It's not entirely altruistic. Vaccinating teenagers would be a big step in ensuring schools don't have to close over next winter.

But they shouldn't really be closing anyway just cos a load of kids get the sniffles (at worst). Again doing so, to prevent school closures, is to limit spread, and to then ultimately protect others. Still altruistic at its ultimate goal.

Evidence from the first study of long covid in children suggests that more than half of children aged between 6 and 16 years old who contract the virus have at least one symptom lasting more than 120 days, with 42.6 per cent impaired by these symptoms during daily activities.

A virus will adapt to its surroundings.  If you vaccinate everyone else and let it circulate unchecked among children, you're just begging for a variant that will do more than cause "the sniffles".

Not sure that your very reasonable, cogent comments are having much of an effect.

Is this heading for ages 10 and under being vaccinated?

Not a fight I'm looking forward to.

Aye, I’m uneasy at the thought of my two (7 & 9) getting vaccinated. I strongly believe it’s vital that kids especially develop a strong immune system on their own.
