How long do people think the vaccine programme will continue to run for? Obviously booster shots are coming in the autumn but if the first doses continue to drop-off because people decide to not take them, you'd think the government would put an end date on the whole thing. Then we could start diverting our supplies to other countries.

Won't they just become like flu shots ?

Schools finishing for summer + euros ending I'd say are the reasons why cases are trending down.  Need to wait until next week to start to see affects on restrictions ending....

Was out in town yesterday for me lass' birthday. It was absolutely heaving, Collingwood Street/Mosley Street was like its pre-COVID grim self and almost all pubs and bars have forgone any sort of restrictions. Was really weird, didn't know whether to be happy about the easing and quasi-normality again or far more wary.

Ouseburn pubs are being very sensible from what I understand.

We really need to have a breakdown on why people got tests, but yes 100% agree with this.

We know that you can't really compare January with last March due to testing capacity, but if IN January you needed to have symptoms to get a test and over the past month or 2 more asymptomatic people have been testing (and testing positive) due to LFTs, Euros, being pinged etcd then this wave may look very different to the winter one.

Of course this doesn't change anything about the severity of 30-50k cases a day, but I like to look at things like this out of curiosity

Credit to the lad for being able to talk about it all, the way he’s describing her it sounds like she’s not on the grift or misinformed but that she’s actually psychotic and is very delusional and unwell

Crazy stuff.

Not sure what the answer is with these folk.

I mean, is there an underlying mental illness, or some sort of autism disorder thats resulted in her becoming fixated on this crap?

Has she always been batshit? Or was Covid a 'trigger' for her?

Someone on Twitter mentioned something about putting these folk into a Prevent type program where they are re-educated but that sounds a little bit too 'chinese internment camp' to me. And what do you do when it doesnt work, which i suspect it wont a lot of the time?

You could probably make an argument for having them sectioned and committed to a special ward but thats a bit to far, imo.

Calling for someone to hang at a protest means that protest is no longer peaceful and should therefore be broker up by the poliss. Anyone know if the law are keeping tabs on these idiots like they do with XR and other protesters?

He said in his BBC interview last year that his entire childhood was dominated by fear of genocide that she never shut up about.

People like her used to stand shouting on street corners and get funny looks from shoppers, now they do it online and can reach enough fellow nutters to get a rally together.

I don’t think anyone can really speculate as to what mental illness she or some others who are that deep into conspiracy theories are experiencing, unless they’re being assessed by a psychiatrist. Nevertheless, delusions to this degree indicate some detachment from reality, ie Psychosis so it would be helpful if she could undergo a psychiatrist assessment. Sadly, unless you’re a danger to yourself or others you’re unlikely to get one, especially if you don’t want one. She sounds like she’s on the verge of being sectioned though

If we (hypothetically) arrested her for hate speech or whatever, that would reinforce the crazies beliefs' that there is a government conspiracy underway. Sadly some nutter could well act on her views and an NHS worker could end up being attacked. Fuck knows how you navigate this.

Can't imagine certain members of the government including the Health Sec and the Home Sec are too concerned about stuff like this becoming more mainstream.

Not wanting to start a silly daft debate, genuine question but why are vaccine passports seen by some as bad when as a society we need pretty much everyone vaccinated?

I'm talking the conspiracy theorists but "normal" people.

The main ones would probably be unnecessary interference with personal liberty (where the government oversteps the mark by tracking individuals when it doesn’t absolutely have to) and creating inequalities (where groups of people are treated unfairly and/or excluded from things).

I don't really see how somebody could be against vaccine passports unless they are a bit of a conspiracy theorist. What are the government going to do that is so intrusive, with what is essentially an I.D. card?

Well this is quite a big debate, FWIW I was massively against ID cards and so were many people (including human rights groups).

Are you happy for the government to record and know everything about you?

Surely the last few years have shown us that things that governments would 'never do', they have done. In the US they've separated kids from their parents at the border and put them in cages. Here they've deported people who have lived in this country for decades, they're creating offshore prisons for immigrants, they've confined free people to their homes for months at a time. Benign government isn't a given, democracy and freedom isn't forever. All of these things are quite fragile.

I can see how some people might be against them in principle, there are valid points to be made about creating a two tier society and excluding people from normal activities.  My own point of view is that while these points may have some validity, the overwhelming need to get as many people vaccinated as possible and the overall benefit and protection for society and those who are vulnerable to the virus overrides these concerns for the moment.

I'm pretty sure they already know I've had both vaccines given that they, via the NHS that they control, are the ones who gave me them and logged it on my medical records.

So many countries, including famously authoritarian states like Austria and Denmark, are already doing these things without the big fuss we make.

I get the point you're making but you might want to rethink that one

They won't know everything about me though. It's a card that shows that I am fully vaccinated and I'm going to presume little more. It doesn't show what my favourite colour is, or my porn preferences, and isn't fitted with a secret tracking device.

TBH you probably want people to make a 'fuss' about potential invasions of your freedom and liberty. Unless you're extremely good at instantly spotting which are OK and which aren't.
