Arguably the best caretaker manager we’ve had. The turnaround that season was huge.

and I'll maintain he was ridiculously unlucky after he got the job injuries under him were kinda insane iirc, hell just losing the star striker while he's away for england is just ridiculous bad luck.

Really sad news, he was a very good centre half for us back in the day, pretty cultured in an era where most British defenders were somewhat agricultural. Decent spell as manager too.

Met him a few times when I was a kid as he lived in Whickham, and he was an absolute gentleman.
