I'm not sure I believe that. It's probably someone who's trying to get people to spam their sponsors in the hope that it'll happen. I don't buy the whole relative thing.

This is simple it is effective why are you having problem.

Nowt will happen after a generic statement is put out by the PL and when the eventual retreat comes when fans are allowed back to sit quietly under White Mike it will be funny as it is pathetic. TF/NUST leading the way with their corporate and shared season tickets.

You actually think this Disco or just being sarcastic

Takeover is dead IMO, there’ll be some residual reaction if and when the PL say anything of course.

Once stadiums are open I’d be genuinely surprised if things don’t lean back to previous behaviour.

PIF bid is done. It's not coming back. They will milk the sympathy and good press. PL will make a statement but it will be nothing other than a blanket.."we believe in our tests but are in the process of reviewing our policies to be even more efficient. we were very thorough, it was a complicated situation that needed time, unfortunately the ownership group decided they couldnt wait any further." Etc..

Our beat bet is Pallotta or someone else coming along. Nothing will come close to the wealth we would have got but we dont necessarily need it If we can find owners that will give decent support to a smartly hired manager. Seems as likely as the PIF bid being back on.

Few thoughts on the below why hasn’t Mike Ashley parked his tank on the PL’s front lawn yet ?

1) The statement from the club said he was committed to the Saudi deal, but was this just lip service to keep fans happy, and privately he’s happy with his 17 million. This would be believable if he thinks Mauriss deal is in the workings, I mean he would end up with 367 million for the club, why would he want to waste legal fees on fighting this.

2) He’s playing a waiting game to see what happens with this fan led pressure being applied, if it doesn’t work and it looks like no other options are on the table, he unleashes his lawyers for restraint of trade.

3) Negotiations are still ongoing in the background and it is still a watching brief.

4) His lawyers have advised him that any legal action would be highly unlikely to be successful. In this case we are truly f***ed and stuck with the cnut.

It’s still depressing though. Our ceiling realistically for the rest of our existence is likely 7th to 12th with the odd top 6 challenge if we have a good season even with amazing owners. We’ll still end up selling our best players to the elite. This was the one shot at us becoming a power.

Still no guarantee PIF will come back. They said the current climate was a reason they pulled out too.

They’ve spent billions in the current climate.

PIF haven’t gone anywhere. They’ve told staveley to sort it, that what she does for her 10%, deals with rtb including getting the deal sorted.

I assume the PL thinks that noUK gov is fit and proper to run the country seing as we sell arms to all these middle east regimes whether Saudi's, Emirates or whomever but quite happy to take the cash for rights from these area's ,hypocrits .

Only way it doesn’t happen is if the PL reject it, they won’t reject it as they’ll lose a subsequent court case.

Yeah, I think the PL have got themselves into a real shitshow and wish the whole thing just didn't exist.

They've obviously got themselves a cartel of powerful opponents to the takeover (the chosen few PL clubs, Qatar via BeIN Sports, others with an axe to grind) who they really don't want to put offside - if these interests weren't applying extraordinary pressure on the PL then the takeover would likely have been approved within the aforementioned 4-5 weeks.  I doubt if they are worried about getting sued by those who want to stop the takeover, but they obviously risk commercial arrangements (with the likes of BeIN) and risk a potential revolt from those leading PL clubs (who they may fear leaving the PL to form a new European super league).

But, whilst the PL may wish to bow to those powerful interests (forcing the takeover to not happen) they don't have a clear (or even token) set of criteria against which they can justify stopping the takeover, meaning if they do they know they will get sued into oblivion.  They can't afford to define a specific reason for rejecting the takeover because that will give Ashley and the buying consortium a tangible thing to sue the PL over (because it will very obviously be a justification that won't stand up in court).

This leaves the PL under the impression they are in an impossible position - but, the problem they have not reconciled themselves to is that, laws (in this case mostly commercial law, but likely some regulatory laws too) trump other commercial risks.  If/when the PL are forced to say "rejected" and forced to give a reason then they risk a substantial lawsuit from Mike Ashley, the buying consortium, and potentially other interests who stand to lose from the takeover not happening (e.g. Newcastle City Council, Reubens, others).  Even if the PL decides that the potential lawsuit is going to cost them less than the cost of pissing off BeIN Sport (Qatar) or the preferred clubs, the lawsuit could still cause the PL to go bankrupt because the amounts of money are so huge.

The PL have only got themselves to blame for this - it is through their negligence and incompetence that they did not anticipate the consequences of the ODT (as it is written) and did not properly manage the process from the beginning.  They also failed to hold other clubs, those that were purchased prior to the current ODT, to the same standard - and courts take a dim view of hypocrisy.  They stuck their heads in the sand, probably assuming that fat-Mike would screw up the deal and they wouldn't have to worry about it, and know they're royally fecked!

In reality what they need to do is accept their medicine, approve the takeover, and then pucker up to kiss the arses of BeIN and the lead PL clubs for the next decade by way of apology.  That is the only way they save this - otherwise they may cause the whole Premier League to collapse.  They've screwed this up so bad they may cause the league itself to cease to exist (due to lawsuits, loss of lead clubs, loss of sponsors, loss of broadcasting revenues).

Great post. They’ve painted themselves in to a corner, the buyer statement has utterly fucked them and their say nowt plan. It’s not acceptable by any party but them and they won’t get away with it.

The whole thing depends on whether there is a strong legal case that can be brought against the PL if they reject it or, just as importantly, refuse to make a decision one way or the other. All of the pressure from the fans and MPs will have no effect if there is nothing that can be done legally to force it through.

I'm allowing myself one last moment of optimism and going with the idea that the buyers and seller now have the PL in checkmate whereby, one way or the other, they know this is going through and are just giving the PL the opportunity to do it without the acrimony of a high profile court case. The buyers dont want to go down the legal route either as that could take throughout the whole of next season to resolve and who knows how the campaign is going to go. They could win the case but then find they have been given the green light to buy a club headed for the Championship.

Whipping up the fans and MPs has been a way of warning the PL that ultimately this is a war that they are going to lose and its up the PL to decide how much damage they are going to sustain.
