think it'll have any impact on transfers? as Mitchell has only just walked through the door?

I dont think it impacts at all - if anything, I feel we might see some more ruthlessness/underhandedness from Saudi now that Mandy isn't there as a check.

I cannot work out if this is positive or not. On one hand I expected it one day, albeit not this soon. And as others have said, it is likely they’ve been unable to match PIF and the Reuben’s investment and been forced into this move. However, I did expect them to stay on at the club in some capacity.

Amanda posting on Instagram 11 weeks ago that she was staying only for this to happen does make me feel that this is not her decision and not been expected. The fact we appointed a top class Sporting Director less than a week ago does give me confidence that the ambition is there still.

EDIT - I do wonder if this is possibly to streamline decision making and give Eales and Mitchell more of a say.

I don't think she would have stopped any underhandedness, but that's not their style anyway.

She had to get PIF to sign off on her recommendations anyway so the way I see it now that red tape has been removed we'll finally be able to see the real intentions of PIF. They've been at arm's length essentially only stepping in when required.

I want to see their true vision, not just what they've agreed to.

Just read  a header that PIF have bought the shares.. was the chronicle mind.

Downie said that too. Probably the case. Reubens seem content with what they have. Be interesting if they sell up.. political influence under a Labour government isn't so useful all of a sudden.

Our Fans always find a way to worry about stuff , this was always going to happen, they dont have the money to invest sadly.

The bedwetting to change on here is pretty standard.

Some wealthy people are taking a cut of their deal with the ultra wealthy to remain wealthy. Appreciate their efforts in ridding our club of that fucking parasite, but PCP leaving is part of our evolution into reaching football's elite.

Again some right fannies on here, it was always going to happen, she even said so herself. Do we stop investment money coming in because she hasn't got the money to match her share? She won't be forgotten, but it's time to take the next stage of the process

From a purely business perspective, they were minority shareholders who were initially needed to run the club. The club haven't spent potentially millions of pounds putting together an executive team to have Staveley and Mehrdad still running things. They cannot match the input financially of the Reubens or PIF so their value as investors is diminished. There is no need for them to hang around any longer and can take what I assume is a fairly substantial ROI off into the sunset.

On a purely personal level I'd love them to stay involved but there is simply no business reason for it. There is nothing to worry about.

Yes, but aside from that, everything is terrible right?

TBF she is a professional middle man, it's her job, I think this particular investment pulled on her heart strings (definitely her husbands) but she was always going to move on

Yes, was involved in the Man City takeover was she not? Expected much the same with us but glad she hung around long after that as the soul of the takeover which perhaps lead me to think it would be different and she'd be here long term, certainly imagined that, which is perhaps where some discomfort comes in.

Sad day, undoubtedly the human face of the club and the tenacity she showed to rid us of the parasite will never be forgotten in this city.

Think we’d already seen though that Eales and Silverstone have assumed running of the business side and bar giving her a non executive role, I suspect they’ve thought the time is right for them to concentrate on other things as the day to day running of the club now takes care of itself.

Her and husband will always be warmly welcomed and hopefully she is there when we finally lift that first trophy.

Very sad about this. I'm not trying to be sexist but she championed the women's team so maybe they could appoint her to a position overseeing the lasses?

Does sound like she's simply moving on though.

Could she still have a seat on the board as a director without being an owner? Would be a nice way to keep her involved in the club.

Resigned from all her directorships in May alongside the Reubens in a number of them.

Could have done. But the Times are reporting she'll leave the board and the management contract she was working under.

Definitely sad that she's going, but it may be she's set us up and done all she can.  It's a tough role being such a public face of the club and the consortium.

The Times article for anybody curious: https://archive.ph/NZrDZ

Quote

Amanda Staveley has left her position at Newcastle United and her 5.7 per cent shareholding is expected to be bought by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.

Staveley and her husband, Mehrdad Ghodoussi, will both terminate the management contracts they have had with the club since the takeover in October 2021 and end their stint as directors.

The pair have been heavily involved in the £450million worth of transfers and the general running of Newcastle since the £300million takeover, when PIF took an 80 per cent majority holding and the 51-year-old Staveley purchased 10 per cent of the club through her company, PCP Capital Partners. The Reuben brothers, through R&B Sports and Media, also took a 10 per cent stake.

Staveley’s stake has been diluted to 5.7 per cent in the past two years when she did not participate in fundraising to produce capital to run the club. She paid £30million for her 10 per cent stake in Newcastle in 2021.

The influence of Staveley and Ghodoussi had remained strong: the pair were heavily involved in the busy end to June, when the club sold Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson for combined fees of £67million to avoid a points deduction next season for breaking the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

They were also involved in the talks to reach a settlement to allow Dan Ashworth to end his 20 months of gardening leave early and join Manchester United as sporting director last week.

It is thought a statement will be released by Newcastle this week to announce the departure of Staveley and Ghodoussi. They are expected to pursue other interests and seek further investment opportunities.

The timing has come as a surprise, given how heavily they were involved in avoiding PSR penalties. However, their role as management consultants in effect placed them in a curious position, above a Newcastle executive board that has only subsequently been put in place with Darren Eales as chief executive and Paul Mitchell as sporting director.

Despite the departure it is thought their relationship with Yasir al-Rumayyan, the governor of PIF and the chairman of Newcastle, is good.

Staveley was the architect of the takeover of Newcastle by PIF. She first appeared at a Newcastle game in 2018, when they played Liverpool, and set the wheels in motion to find the investment needed to buy out the unpopular Mike Ashley. She initially failed to do that herself.

In 2020 she was involved in negotiations for PIF to buy out Ashley. The purchase took 18 months before it was ratified by the Premier League, which was given “legally binding assurances” that the Saudi state would not have control of the club.

Newcastle finished fourth in the Premier League in the first full season under the club’s new owners and reached their first cup final for nearly a quarter of a century.
