The PL's position has never been "KSA's a director, but it can't be a director because piracy." It's been "KSA is a director because of the relationship between KSA and PIF, full stop. So KSA has to acknowledge it's a director and give us the declaration and information required under the rules, which it hasn't done." As a matter of logic, removing piracy doesn't solve that issue. I don't doubt that piracy was an issue, or even the sole issue, driving the PL behind the scenes, but they've never copped to that before, and to let this go through now they'd either have to cop to that or just say "Yeah, so we just decided we were wrong about that whole director thing. Soz."

they could state they were only interested in the separation as they had an ongoing complaint from bein. Now that complaint has gone we have no need to test separation therefore we are happy to have pif as an owner regardless of their links to KSA.

This is the crux, like. Theyd have to agree to being a director. Which sounds barmy still.

About 4 hours late to the party, it all feels just a bit too positive, been burned so many times, I’m going to wait a bit and see what happens for my own mental health.

Think the price of the club is going to be an issue, at least, negotiations won’t be straight forward, Ashley is hardly going to be happy about losing out on several million. Which in a sense is not his fault but then at same time it’s very much his fault. He could be negotiating for a far higher price if he’d actually done anything with this club for the last few years.

Crucially, although news of the legal dispute with BeIN only emerged on Wednesday, progress has been made behind the scenes after the Saudis took control of the talks directly and asked the Premier League what they needed to do for the takeover to be revived. They have since acted on that instruction.

Newcastle United helping ease middle eastern relations since 2020

I'd hope the price has already been agreed way back at the start of last year and the offer has always been on the table providing all obstacles are cleared.

Ashley fucks about with the deal and winds up with a date with a bonesaw.  Either way he's gone.

They could say that and let it go through, but logically it doesn't hold water. The rules don't say "test someone when there's a complaint," they say "you're a director under factual circumstances x, y, and z, and as a director you've got to do 1, 2, and 3."

What will happen to poor Charners ? I bet he wishes he made a few more club donations to the food bank now.

He'll get a hefty payoff with the payrise he got about a year ago.

Fuck knows how long his contract is.  What is the half life of a barely sentient thumb?
