People being defensive about the potential of PIF dumps us for Man Utd. For me it's a win win situation. PIF stays, then good, bright future for the club, the city, and region. PIF leaves, it's okay at least we got rid of Cashley and the club would be free once again.

Remember the  "anyone but Ashley" days.  How soon people forget.

Which was always a load of shite anyway. It's not going to happen anyway and today's partnership announcement is a further indication of that (Man Utd sponsor likely moving to Newcastle it seems).

I don’t think anyone is really taking it seriously. I think they are just bemused that it’s written by a Man Utd fan who has consistently written about our takeover, claiming taking over us makes no sense, and that a Man Utd takeover makes more sense all because he’s a Man Utd fan.

I’m not sure it’s defensiveness - I think the situation is funny.  It’s a desperate misreading of both the situation and PIF’s intent.  If they wanted to buy Man Utd they could have at any time - does anyone seriously think the Glazers wouldn’t have accepted a bid?  It’s as funny as those sad twats from Milan and Marseille thinking that the PIF buyout was always happening tomorrow.

I love the fact he’s a Professor too - a Professor who is meant to specialise in his knowledge of this stuff.  Yet he’s exposed as knowing the square root of fuck all

Yep, it all feels like yet another attempt to wind up one of the most volatile sets of fans in the country. If any serious journo carries this story then they just want chucking onto the ignore list with Edwards and the other WUM's.

Even if PIF wanted to I can’t see it happening. Competition for Liverpool and Man United will be fierce and I reckon the PL would pull the drawbridge up the minute we were jettisoned.

I don’t, and they could outgun the competition financially.

Those clubs will be bought out with borrowed cash and heavy leveraging.

Yeah, same. Taking over Newcastle means there is no profit, ignoring the fact that they aim to build the club. Taking over Man Utd would be better, ignoring the fact that the higher price point for the club plus new stadium means there is no profit for the next 20 years minimum.

It’s basically this:

’I’m a professor of economics, and I’m going to use my economic abilities/teachings to tell you why PIF should ignore the fact that it would be economically unsound to buy Man Utd and buy them over another club that makes economic sense, but you should listen to me because I’m an economics professor and I’m telling you to make an unsound investment for my own gratification.’

It’s shite like this that Chadwick said - utterly littered with total weapons-grade horseshit - which irritates:

“Newcastle United has always seemed like an opportunistic purchase and I think in essence the deal for Newcastle was sold heavily to them by intermediaries,” adds Chadwick. “You had a willing seller and the amount of money they paid is small change.

“The opportunistic purchase of Newcastle, I think, was a consequence of being kicked back by Manchester United in the first place.

“There probably will be a certain amount of disbelief amongst Saudi officials having bought Newcastle when they really wanted to buy Manchester United. They are now in a position where they could potentially buy Manchester United.

“I might be going out on a bit of a limb here, but it is not entirely inconceivable that they could dispose of Newcastle and buy Manchester United.”

Yep, seemed really ‘opportunistic’ to me.  So opportunistic that they spent the best part of two years trying before paying Qatar £1bn to resolve it.

The good prof doesn’t seem to understand the meaning of ‘opportunistic’, and as others have pointed out, this is really the desperate ramblings of a man who wanted his club bought.

Aye, waited over a year and took the premier league to court on that basis.

we don’t know what the future holds but we can be certain PIF really wanted to buy us.

I always like to point out the qualifiers when journalists or commentators make such statements.

The bits in bold here basically mean "I am totally speculating. There is zero evidence that what I have said will happen. Please give some attention to me."

Imagine if I used this in general conversation: " I might be going out on a limb here, but it is not entirely inconceivable that Ana De Armas could find me attractive and want to fuck me.". It's not entirely inconceivable, but I'd be laughed at by my missus and made to leave the dinner table in shame.

Isn't this the same guy who in the early days said there was no chance of our takeover happening at all?

For a Professor of Economics, it's quite astounding that he misses the fact that this isn't just about owning a football club, there will be a whole investment strategy being built around it.

The thing is, he makes some points that are probably accurate. They were "sold" the club by intermediaries - Staveley's interest pre-dates KSA/PIF by a number of years & they probably did want to buy MUFC at some point. The fact they didn't shows that they aren't in the business of paying overinflated prices for football clubs, otherwise that's exactly what they would have done (because let's be honest here, they have the money to have made the Glazers an offer they couldn't refuse).

No, he’s a Manc, teaches at Salford Uni I believe. He’s red through and through, he always came up with reasons our takeover wouldn’t happen, I’m afraid he suffers from massive pangs of jealousy that Manu weren’t taken over by the Saudi’s. He’s a total cunt.

All that needs to be said on this matter.
