Battlefield 2042

Recommended Posts

Open Beta: Oct 6-9th (6-7th for pre-orderers or EA Play members and 8-9th for everyone else) Preload from 5th

Full release: Nov 19th

Really looking forward to this. I've been cold on BF games since knocking the competitive BF2 on the head. Every one of them since has just interested me less and less but I think this adds enough new shit to get me interested and moving away from the World War settings helps that massively.

BF might be a better option in that case. With 127 other players on the field the odds of finding other low level players is higher and the massive maps makes it easier to find a bit of space and do your thing away from the usual high combat areas.

EA are so shit man [emoji38]

Two separate clients on the PC for EA games.

One of them acknowledges I'm subscribed to their "EA Play" monthly thing but doesn't know the beta is out yet so won't let me download it. The other knows the game is out but doesn't talk to the other one so has no idea I'm subscribed so I can download it but can't play it.

Ha, think I migh5 be the same. Code redeemed on origin but beta download only available for ea play. Haven’t tried it like. More likely to abandon the many games I’m playing for a good old therapeutic session of FM with pif at the wheel.

Not overly impressed with this, all the players have the same skins so you can't tell who is on your team. Oh and the map button doesn't work so you have no idea what is going on, I'll play some more over the weekend and hopefully it gets better.

The UI looks terrible.

I know it's probably to encourage team work and keep players informed with what's going on, but it looks a PowerPoint presentation.

It's so bloody fast. I feel like everything is happening at a million miles an hour and I'm too fucking old to deal with it all.

This has been one of the things that has crippled the series post BF2. They saw the popularity of CoD4 and were desperate to emulate that chaotic, non-stop action element in Battlefield. It's what made CoD4 popular at the time, so Battlefield simply had to have it. The sad fact is, that Battlefield's strengths were that the combat was slower and more tactical. It wasn't about who could aim the quickest, it was about attacking the right points on the map.

It's been a decade now since Battlefield 3 came out, and this just looks like the same game with another coat of paint on it to me. Maybe someone can tell me differently, but I'm staggered as to how many people are willing to pay full RRP to play the same thing over and over for ten years.

Yeah there's no campaign. They left it out to concentrate on MP which doesn't show in this (albeit an old build) broken BETA.

The more I've played of it, the more I've swayed over to waiting a few months post launch to see how it's turned out. Some of the bugs I'm sure have either been fixed or will be fixed, but there's still some gameplay decisions (personally think the Operators have ruined teamwork) that I'm not too keen on.

I think this is all gonna be about the Portal and Hazard Zone modes.

Best thing about the older BF games I'd that pretty sharpish the community rallied around servers with custom rulesets that then got copied and replicated over and over. I can see players basically creating a "fixed" version of the rules that Dice have put in the vanilla game.

First thing people will do is strip out these Specialists and put the classes back in. Even a change like that might be the new normal.

Not sure how they've fucked this so much. All the needed to do was take BF4, update the engine, job done. Instead they've tried to add random shit from COD that simply aren't needed, and made the graphics worse by increasing the player count which no one really needed.

Portal looks good, but again the UI is the new shit version, where the icon colours blend in and the flag markers are fucking massive taking up most of the screen.

Supposedly utter shite this. Along with GTA's failure I'm starting to lose a bit faith in the industry. How you can charge 50-60 quid for an unfinished, unpolished shell of a game is beyond me.
