Changes you'd like the new owners to make

Has anyone mentioned upgrading the woeful 4G signals in the ground.

Btw Sir Les was almost the perfect striker, give him a nasty edge and he’d have been the best. He was a real Rolls Royce of a player and athlete.

Aye he was too nice, if he had say Drogba’s bit of nasty streak in him, you’re looking at a genuine world-class striker. He had it all though Sir Les and he’s a wonderful person to boot, someone I wouldn’t mind seeing back at the club in some capacity.

That's not an issue with the club.  It's 52,000 people all using their phones at the same time and it being in a city centre.

Doesn’t happen at other grounds though, I’ve been to the Emirates in the last few years and the wifi signal was superb for example.

Is a new modern stadium on the cards then ?

I do not think patching up (expanding) an already aged ground,  is going to sit well with the aesthetic sensibilities of the new owners. IMO

Ok thought this was probably sensible thread to have this discussion. What should the owners do in the immediate future in terms of on the pitch, I'm not talking specific managers or players necessarily.

Do you try and find a manager to take the manager on long term straight away? Or do you get in someone a bit less exciting maybe to firefight and keep us in premier league this season, with view of better managers coming available in summer (and if dude does very well can be kept I guess). I would be tempted to get a director of football to come in and spend the next 6 months getting everything including recruitment structure behind the scenes all straightened out before worrying about attracting any super big name managers but torn because a shit manager beloved of pundits could still get us relegated. I doubt a Tuchel sort would want to join until summer at least.

Transfers wise, assuming they're telling the truth and not going to spend all the money in the world immediately I still think at least 3 solid quality players are needed in winter. We 100% need a high class midfielder and striker. Press are banging on about more centre backs but a good coach should be able to get Schar back into team and get lascelles playing well again.

I, think any 'big name' signings will be over expensive in january. We are going to be offered every overpaid unwelcome player in all the leagues from teams hoping to get a quick buck from naive new owners. I would also try and avoid totally breaking the wage structure immediately lest cause problems with current squad we still need. I would try and get ASM on new contract mind.

I'm nearly sure we'll see a new name for a sponsored ground and on that basis I've made my peace with the idea of them building somewhere else (in the city centre, though). I proper love St James and probably would rather they stuck with 52k though, in all honesty

The Leazers site just behind the Sir John Hall stand would be my priority, with maybe a mini,  bar lined Wembley way type structure where St James currently stands

I wouldn't have thought they could just howk up Leazes Park though

I'm sure the smack heads could find somewhere else of a night time

 fair point

and the Canada Geese could start haunting a different disgusting brown sheet of dirty water

Haha, it's so difficult tho to find a site in the center big enough without moving roads and such, Spurs seemed to manage it and Chelsea had huge plans.

My shout for money no object planning is to level everything between St James Boulevard and Pink Lane/Clayton Street and Neville Street/Westgate.  I mean, it's a shame for the Tyne Theatre and that, but :shifty:

I mean, I know it's not going to happen  but that's the bit of town I reckon everyone would miss least (other than, y'know, people who live and work there )

There's literally nowhere to put anything except between the arena and Forth Banks, really. Or Manors, maybe.

Increase St James’ to its maximum, make it super difficult to get a ticket, get the atmosphere unreal and don’t care about match day revenue (which is shit for a club anyway).

Could do with them working faster to turn things around. 19th place with no wins isn't the time to "progress slowly", unless that means Championship next season.

Act now, sack Bruce.

Small things which would be such notable and immediate improvements to the stadium and the match day experience:

- Return the lettering on the East Stand from the italicised letters which are almost illegible back to the roman (upright) letters with proper kerning between letters.
- Lose whatever version of Blaydon Races they're playing in the stadium these days and return to the original they used to play. Current version is a mess. What's with those drums?

Another thing which somewhat dampens the build up is the Premier League music. I'm guessing that it's a requirement to have it played though. O Fortuna sounds great just as the players are in the tunnel readying themselves, but I'm sure it used to break straight into Local Hero as they entered the pitch and was way more inspiring that way.

  • 2 weeks later...

Thinking back to happy times of supporting Newcastle in the past. We as supporters, and the city as a whole always seemed fantastic when we were United. United in our support for the club, and in our ambitions.

when this happens, the whole city is alive and buzzing. Everywhere you go, everyone you speak to wants to talk about NUFC. Its magical. We are not there yet, as even though we are potentially the richest club in the world, there is so much uncertainty, and people seem very divided about everything to do with the takeover and the future.

I compare this time with the arrival of Keegan as a player. So much of the city had turned away from NUFC by then. Much of this was caused by the sale of Supermac, and the hideous fall after that. When I started going to watch them in 1980, most supporters were seen as a laughing stock. No one else wanted anything to do with NUFC. Keegans arrival as a player changed that completely, he United the city.

When John Hall took over the club it was a very much a time of limbo, like now, people were divided about the owners. Again we became United when Keegan came in as manager, although this time it was a slower process due to the precarious nature of our position in the division, and Keegan being a totally unknown quantity as a manager.

The excitement on both occasions, especially his time as manager, came from the changes that happened, the development, the style of football etc.

I was thinking what is it that is so exciting, what changes do we have to look forward to, changes that will excite us, Unite us?

I thought both short and long term changes like:

New manager

New DOF

New CEO

New sporting director

End of Lee Charnley’s time at club

change of style of football

winning games

new signings/upgrading every time you buy someone, like Keegan did.

Selling our deadwood

being competitive

changes to training facilities

developing the academy

improvements to SJP/rebuild/speculation about moving

challenging for Europe/playing in Europe

Challenging for honours

Winning trophies.

I cant wait
