Martinez hasn't won anything with a 'golden generation' at Belgium because he has no idea how to organise a defensive unit.

Both Italy and Belgium came into the tournament with an ageing defence. The difference was that Mancini ensured the Italian back line was never really exposed, Jorginho sat in front, with Barella and Veratti providing plenty of energy and ability on the ball.

I appreciate Witsel came into the tournament with an injury, but Martinez did absolutely nothing to reduce his defences exposure, with players frequently able to get a direct run on them.

It was the same at Everton. He inherited a solid defence from Moyes, who had played together for years and due to a combination of poor recruitment and coaching, they became an absolute shambles at the back and dropped from the European spots to lower midtable as a consequence.

Currently our defence is as unorganised as I've seen it and we don't really have the players that can keep the ball and offer the possession games Martinez likes. He wouldn't even have the initial structure he was afforded at Belgium and Everton.

In short I think he would be an absolute disaster.

Of those that have been mentioned it would be Emery by a mile for me.

He would organise the defence, get us playing in a proper formation and have us hard to beat. I think he keeps us up comfortably and is also good enough to kick on next season

Yeah, on the whole I think Emery would be the best. Also has some experience with the league.

If we are looking at someone that is not under contract at another club, and who is a realistic and achievable hire at the minute,  I think it would have to be AVB as I think of the options available he is most likely to provide us with the balance of a solid defensive unit and decent play going forward.

Agreed and I think we need them in by the weekend we can’t allow Bruce another game

And Bruce who allegedly loves NUFC, refuses to accept that performances are his fault and waits to be sacked so he gets his £8m "reward" for litterally destroying NUFC!!  As he said he never breaks a contract.  Thats because he has made his living by getting sacked from all his jobs and having his contracts paid up!  We are told Ashley paid £8m compo to sheff wednesday.  Its unbelievable that this excuse for a football manager is going to cost NUFC £16m!!!!

Martinez might be canny if we can also bring in a specialist defensive coach (not Lawrenson).

Reading up on AVB  - he seems to have matured a fair bit so could be an option. After Bruce, I'm really warming to the idea of someone young, fresh and modern in the role.

The problem is, who worth their salt is going to take a contract until end of season? If we stay up, the goalposts move considerably.

I don't think it has to be just till the end of the season. I think we could appoint someone on an 18 month contract (at least), and be able to give them that time.

I don't think there'll be any sort of 'crazy' investment in the team in either january or the summer. Lots of change possibly, but measured recruitment, and it just needs someone to keep us up this season, and oversee the start of the changes.

Steady things / consolidate next season, make sure we aren't in a relegation battle again, then the summer after could be the start of the real push on.

I don't really know enough about any of the candidates but Fonseca sounds like he could be fun with his attacking style.

Get him in, buy a few promising young players and just go all out attack, fuck it

I would get rid of all our coaches including Jones and bring in a set of coaches who know what they are doing

To be honest, I generally don’t like going back in for previous managers and clearly he’s not going to walk away from Everton as he’s too honourable. However, if there was one manager I would trust to build us into a consistently strong team, challenging for silverware season on season it would be Rafa and I don’t think it would take him more than three years. Gutted we didn’t get the takeover sorted when he was here

Yup, the premier league fucked us with the timing of it all. It could have been perfect.

Allardyce blaming the fans again today I see. Apparently we were so bad defensively because 50,000 excited Geordies demand attacking football and it leaves the defence vulnerable

Imagine how clueless you have to be to say something like this, and this is someone that has been a manager for decades man. Apparently in football you can only either attack or defend and not be able to do both at least half decently as a team.

It's the exact same thing Bruce pushes after every single game. 'We've tried to change things by going on the front foot and this has left us open defensively now'. And so alternatively their solution is just to have ten men in our own box and have us lose by slightly fewer goals.

I tell you what, this has been a pretty demanding past week for the fans.

Firstly signing the takeover off, and now being responsible for the team not being able to play balanced football.

What do we fancy doing this week lads? Fancy sacking Bruce?

Man, I really hope these lot get the next manager hire right, it's a massive call. I'm very nervous for them.

It's going to be tough. Which half decent manager is going to look at our current situation and fancy it. Rafa would have been perfect as he was looking for a project. The rest just want to walk in to a club with everything in place.

Thanks to fucking lard arse we're looking at a relegation scrap already. It's annoying how the tosser is sitting on his hands waiting for a nice pay off whilst the club he apparently loves is nosediving into the championship. Utter wanker.

Any manager that doesn’t have enough confidence in his ability to turn this season around wouldn’t be worth hiring. It’s not like we’re cut adrift at the bottom yet. I don’t buy this narrative that the job is unattractive, there’s a huge and rare opportunity here for someone to build something significant.
