I'm not feeling the Gerrard thing at all. Feels like another who has been a star and is presumed to be a dead cert great as a manager. He might be, but there's no proof as of yet.

Out of those being named...Unai Emery seems like he could be a good match and have the ability to build, if given time.

But, to be fair, I'd be the last person to listen to when picking a new manager. I don't know anywhere near as much as is needed. My opinion is very low-research based

Thing is - get a manager now - give him 2 games to get used to shite he’s been left with, then he has 2 weeks during the internationals to really get some proper work done with the group

Emery is a cracking manager, I feel he got harshly treated at Arsenal tbh. Would prefer him over Lampard/Gerrard/Howe

Think he would be a great shout tbh, he's already had experience in the Premier which could be invaluable. Fonseca seems to be the other one who might be keen on the job, my only worry would be we don't have the players to go all out attack which seems to be his philosophy. Could be a dangerous game to play in our position.

I actually hate that I'm even suggesting this, but I wonder if Roy Hodgson might be a good shout for a purely til-the-end-of-the-season caretaker role.

I hate that you are saying it too.

Actually not a bad shout

Honestly though, look at the managers who are out of work and you'll probably see why.  If they go for PL experience or a proven manager to avoid relegation and it's just for the interim, I'd probably have him over the alternatives.

They could do with some calls being returned.
The Independent has been told of how Amanda Staveley’s husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi attempted to get in touch with one big-name manager last week, only to be given short shrift. The coach, in short, had no interest in working with this Newcastle as it is and was puzzled by the nature of the approach.

Such circumstances were one big reason Steve Bruce was still in charge for Sunday’s match against Tottenham Hotspur, that ended with the ignominy of both ends of the ground singing “sacked in the morning”.

Need to get some football people involved pronto. I like that Mehrad is trying to get in a top manager though, as that is apparently his preference from the article. Might need some help from football people with contacts though.

Out of the shortlist from the echo:

Favre and Fonseca: I know little about either of these but I'm more than happy to take the majority of opinion that they would be good moves.

Emery: Emery would be class. Shame he was given such a sticky wicket after Wenger. Would be right behind that move.

Gerrard: I totally get the Gerrard vibe. He's an icon of the game who's already achieved success, albeit inevitable success, with Rangers. The guys a god who would attract big stars.

Lampard: I get the hostility towards Lampard but I remember his Derby side going to Manchester and winning IIRC. He's not a bad manager at all and again, is a big personality, which we need desperately. He would be my least favourite for sure but I'd get behind him in the short term.

Favre, Fonseca, Emery, Gerrard or Lampard are better than Bruce, would galvanize the fans (for many reasons, but ultimately all are not Bruce) and would be great names to attract players in January. I've no doubt in my mind, binning Bruce this week and replacing with one of them will allow us to stabilize and move up the table (the quality of manager and signings made in Jan will dictate how far up we go).

My preference is Emery, Fonseca then Favre (out of the latest crop of names)

Just need to get it done and we can relax and get behind them.

I will worry about who is going to steer us into the champions league when that day comes.

I would have thought that this project would have managers lining up.

If no one is in place by next game I confess I’ll be slightly concerned.

May I politely enquire as to what is big about Frank Lampard's personality? Or do you mean he's a very famous, very good ex-player?
