Kieran Trippier (now playing for Wolves)

Recommended Posts

As others have said didn't start well but improved and didn't seem to struggle with his fitness despite playing midweek. Second half there was only the Hudson Odoi run that really came from poor positioning and a rare misread. His throw ins are shite still mind.

he made 19 progressive passes* yesterday which is probably the most I've noticed before in a game.

For context for those who don't look at this sort of stuff, that's pretty much double the premier league leader in this metric has averaged per 90 this season so far - which is also Trippier on 10.6 per 90 (Elliot Anderson and Bruno Fernandes are next with 8.8 and 8.7 respectively).

He is still really good at getting us up the pitch.

*defined as: Completed passes that move the ball towards the opponent's goal line at least 10 yards from its furthest point in the last six passes, or any completed pass into the penalty area. Excludes passes from the defending 40% of the pitch

Hes a weird player these days his set pieces can be poor but was he the one that crossed the ball tonali nearly lobbed the keeper?

He used to be great at header duels for a smaller player now not so much.

Hes great at receiving the ball and controlling it but recall yesterday around 13mins he passed the ball directly to the forest player for no reason.

Maybe its just because  the high standard/level I have of him as a player or age catching up. He will no doubt love getting the game time again but just hope we arent putting too much on him.

His first touch and overall control of the ball is some of the best I've seen from any player.

He is what he is at this point. Still a good player offensively but probably a below-average defensive fullback now whose athleticism has deteriorated noticeably and probably becomes worse when he's forced to play too many games.

Still more than good enough to be our second choice right back, but in an ideal world we wouldn't be relying on him as much as we're going to be forced to this season.

It's exceptional isn't it even when receiving a pass higher off the ground or at the wrong pace it doesn't often bounce off him like you see with others.

Think a lot of that is how we play, we’re inside our half and that pass is forward to Elanga feet. Would like to see Trippier turn it over the opposition full back more when he has Elanga on his side. You do notice the difference though in the pass forward as Burn doesn’t have the confidence / ability to do same to burn when put under pressure unlike Trippier.

One thing Trippier needs to snap out of for me is his stupid throws. Every game he will a couple of times just throw it straight to the opposition :D For an experienced player, it’s strange.

Kieran Trippier: “At the age of 35, I feel the fittest I’ve ever felt. There are so many games, and you have to be ready to take every opportunity. I’m enjoying my football.”

Ever so vital to Newcastle United! On and off the pitch!

I think defensively he is still mostly solid. Even against Rashford he did well overall, bar 1 or maybe 2 moments when Rashford did him with pace and trickery. Yes he is lacking pace a bit, but he often more than makes up for it with solid fundamentals

"Feel the fittest I've ever felt" are the famous last words of every ageing MMA fighter before being knocked out in spectacular fashion.

Fingers crossed it doesn't translate into the footballing world.

Wonder how much he's helped Thiaw get off to a good start. At his age Trips obviously isn't quite the player he was a couple of years ago, but he's vastly experienced, an absolute leader and talks, talks, talks. Must be a great person to have next to you to help you learn your role in a new team.

Stamina wise I've thought he's looked pretty good, when it comes to recovery pace you can tell he's 35 but it really helps that Thiaw is on his side.

yeah of course, just thought it was an interesting quote. He has been known to ace the pre season fitness tests as a senior pro in his time here, how recently is anyone's guess. I'd say he's lost a bit of zip last couple of seasons

I could watch him bring a ball down on his toes all day. He’s an absolute master at it and has incredible touch. I do think his short range passing has deteriorated a lot though, perhaps it’s just concentration related
