It’s not about Lascelles though - he’s very popular in the dressing room and it’d possibly cause further issues.

What, are you worried the rest of them might start underperforming like?

Cut above this lad. You can tell, despite the shite around him. He's not tall, but wins most headers and his positioning is good. His key defensive abilities are not always praised like they should be.

I know I've banged this drum before but it's infuriating that discussions like this are being had considering the way in which he made his mark on the team at the end of the relegation season.

If he or anyone else in the squad had the audacity to kick up a stink on someone else getting the captaincy, I'd hope Howe has done enough homework to remind them of exactly how he came to get the captaincy in the first place.

He’s fucking class, some of his oases in the final 3rd is what you’re expecting from our midfield.

Plays some delightful high-risk/high-reward passes into the final third, and he's so composed at the back. Stands out like a sore thumb in our team, who seem absolutely desperate to give the opposition as many opportunities as possible to build chances.

Looks a superb player, like, can easily see him being a bit of a cult hero if we manage to stay up and kick on a bit.

His positioning in the first half was embarrassingly bad, thankfully rectified second half. His distribution is light years ahead of anything we've had in the right back position for ages.

This guy’s attitude, professionalism and class is going to be invaluable the rest of this season. An immense coup to pull off this signing and get him here.

He clearly won’t accept second best from the rest of the team either.
