of those that we're being linked with? probably botman, though that's another gamble given our situation. you really would want a centre back with PL experience - conor coady maybe, but that's easier said than done for obvious reasons.

Thought Lille have already said he's not for sale in this window?

Really hope we've been working on other targets aside from this like.

Not convinced like,  we chased Botman and when news came out that the deal wasn’t gonna happen all the news on Carlos started picking up.

Something doesn’t add up here, why keep moving the goalposts for an extra few million if the player is already unsettled and has asked to leave? What’s the point on risking the buyer walking away over an insignificant amount and being left with a pissed off player for at least half a season?

Sevilla didnt ask for a bid and DC was almost signing his New contract. Sevilla doesn't risk anything but to get the Best team possible.

But now DC has been offered triple his wage and has had his agents negotiating with Sevilla so he can leave?

We didn’t we bid for both pretty close together and wanted them both

I appreciate that but what I mean is the Botman deal went dead and all focus seemed to shift to Carlos. Every player we have looked at had been revealed in the press but we haven’t seen anything else concrete on a CB since Carlos.

just a dance isn't it. we'll get one of these names we've been linked with for a massive fee at some point before or on deadline day

So you have signed Martial and will be paying him 200k a week for the rest of the season, and now you will need to at least double Carlos's wages. Can Spanish clubs afford to run their business like this? Isn't that why many clubs in La Liga are in trouble?

Exactly this. Although they will just allow him to leave in the summer I should imagine.  But surly his price goes down as he is fucked off?

Aren't Lille in financial difficulties?

Supposedly, but both them and Sevilla are telling us to take our money and stick it where the sun don't shine. The UK basically.

This is bollocks tbh, wasted so much time on this, only to be punked by these arseholes. I’m fine with them walking away, but surely we could have handled this better

How have we handled it? Sorry Ive only read tweet updates and bitty articles to get some content out, not been aware of the details internally of how we've actually handled it. Could you explain?

No coincidence imo that we walk just as they commit to spending on Martial. Do they have money post Covid? Over to the player/agent to push this through with Seville before we buy elsewhere.
