Hugo Ekitike (not playing for Liverpool for a while)

If Liverpool are genuinely interested I don't see why he'd come to us tbh.

I think Liverpool would rather have Isak. They might think it's worth letting Ekitike come to Newcastle in the hope that improves their chances of getting Isak.

Sounds very much like he's the JP alternative and we are hoping to get some money knocked off the fee.

I think its fair to say Ekitike would far surpass any expectations I had on us signing 2 quality attacking players of this calibre.

I've long been convinced that we are determined to find someone who can be the long term successor to Isak.

60 odd million for someone who we dont "need" sounds like alot, until you consider the potential of Isak leaving in the next 2 years.

Isak is going next summer imo, new contract or not. To get his replacement in this summer, saves us being quoted even more astronomical prices next season.

I agree but that's very risky.

They sign a worse striker this window in the hope next summer we agree to sell them Isak?

I must admit I think this aswell, unless we win the lot of course

He is a genuine Joao Pedro alternative if you look at his mazy dribbling and passes through the lines on YouTube.
This profile is quite rare so the budget is there I guess for the right type of player.

I can’t see us being a realistic option for him even if we sell that he’s the long term Isak replacement. He wants to play football and he will be second choice

Wouldn't be if we played 2 up front which was apparently part of the pitch to Delap.

I can still see us agreeing a new contract with him but it will have a release clause attached, hopefully only to foreign clubs. I could absolutely see him playing for PSG.

Ultimately, as much as we all want Isak forever, the realist in me says we need solid planning and looking on the bright side it gives us massive scope to spend money.

Even if Isak isn't our player, he may end up being the golden goose in his exit.

It's also something which Eddie has historically played. It may well be that we will transition into some 4231 hybrid but it's clearly an option he desires.

I still can’t understand how Delap decided to move to Chelsea ahead of us. But if it means we get Hugo then happy days!

Pretty sure one of the more reliable journos (can’t remember which one), said the price is more likely to be around 65 million.

“Eintracht Frankfurt asked Chelsea for £84m a few weeks ago for Hugo Ekitike,” he [Romano] told his YouTube channel.

“However, there’s a feeling among top English clubs that Frankfurt may accept around £68m to £76m for him in the coming days or weeks.”

I haven't watched it myself, but apparently it was in this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wkf6f73Ii_s ) on his YT channel he said it, according to among others: https://chelsea.news/2025/06/fabrizio-romano-ekitike-chelsea/

Could see us seriously considering making a move.

Club has come a long way to skip the monitoring step and go straight into making a move.

Newcastle United have rekindled their interest in French forward Hugo Ekitike as they look to find a striker to play alongside Alexander Isak.

Having missed out on Brazil international João Pedroearlier this month, when he preferred a move from Brighton to Chelsea, Newcastle are still hoping to signanother striker in this window.

With Champions League football and three domestic competitions to contend with next season, Newcastle cannot expect Isak to play in every game and need to rotate their forwards.

Manager Eddie Howe has two players on the left in Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes, and having completed the £55 million signing of Anthony Elangafrom Nottingham Forest, he also has two players on the right with Jacob Murphy set to compete with the Sweden international.

However, Isak does not have similar competition or cover, with Denmark Under-21 international William Osula the only other senior striker at the club following the departure of Callum Wilson.

In June, Telegraph Sport revealed that Newcastle were still tracking Ekitike, but should they pull off the transfer it will be a major coup given how well he has played in the Bundesliga for Eintracht Frankfurt and for the France Under-21 side.

Given the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea have all been linked with a move for the 23-year-old this summer, there is naturally caution on the Newcastle side, but they are looking into the possibility of doing a deal with the German club.

Telegraph Sport understands Newcastle have made the player’s representatives aware of their desire to sign the France Under-21 international and will hope to agree a fee with the Bundesliga club.

Ekitike has a release clause of around €100 million (£86 million) and Newcastle would almost certainly have to pay the full fee to get the transfer over the line.

Newcastle are right to be wary. They have tried to sign Ekitike twice before, first in January 2022 and again in the summer window later that year.

A deal was close to being completed on both occasions until the player decided to join Paris St-Germain. He failed to secure regular first-team football in Paris and signed for Frankfurt in 2024.

Ekitike scored 22 goals with 12 assists in all competitions last season and helped secure Eintracht Champions League football.

Should Newcastle complete the signing of the Frenchman it does not mean Isak will be sold this summer. The Newcastle hierarchy still intend to offer last season’s top goalscorer a new contract and have no interest in selling him in this window, when he still has three years left on his existing deal.

It would certainly be quite the statement of intent from us and could potentially take us to another level if he turns out to be the player we think he could.

Insulates us a bit against Isak leaving next summer, means we have a star CF already in the squad and then a huge pile of Isak money to spend without a gaping hole there at the position.

And maybe, just maybe, bringing in players of this quality also makes Isak think that Newcastle is the place he can achieve everything he wants to in the sport and doesn’t need to move.

I don’t know how feasible it is financially, but I would have thought that there’s scope to be aggressive? Our 23/24 figure is pretty healthy from the Anderson and Minteh sales and that figure will still be part of the calculations next summer. I’d be surprised if we are in any sort of dire PSR situation until June 2027.

Miggy and Kelly sales, plus Longstaff if sold.

(Selling) Isak has nothing to do with our striker search imo. I'm sure a control freak like Eddie is sick of having one functional striker at his disposal. Targeting JP (or even Cunha before that) shows we are prepared to spend big for the right attacker. I'm even optimistic that we can afford ~35-40m for a CD on top of that.

I'm sure we're interested and we're "keeping tabs" on Ekitike but I doubt he's our primary target. Simply because other clubs are interested and he did already reject us. Motivation to play and improve for us is perhaps the most important factor we're looking for in a player.

I have no doubt that somebody like Sesko might've outright declined any interest.. yet I'm sure we're 'monitoring' him as closely as Ekitike. It's all about player preference at that level. If Ekitike or Sesko doesn't receive a better offer from a better club, we might end up with a big name striker.

We’d still need to buy another striker
