We should agree a price for Ekitike, instalments and all. Call Liverpool’s bluff; so long as it doesn’t force us into a PSR sale of a “purple” we’re good. Let’s see if Liverpool then sign a player they don’t want and potentially put them out of any Isak bidding next year.

I think that's what we'll do, call their bluff. Don't see us walking away unless the player turns us down.

If that's the number it takes to get the deal done just fucking give it to them instead of piss farting around trying to shave off a million or so.

 

If we think he isn't worth that kind of money and isn't a game changer with the potential to significantly elevate the team then why are we even bothering with him in the first place.

 

Unfortunately, I just can't see a scenario where Liverpool walk away from this situation empty handed and we ride off with Isak on an improved deal and a Isak regen as his back up

Agree with what others are saying - keep Isak, drive the Ekitike fee up and let Liverpool pay a premium for their second choice. For all the media chat about a Liverpool power play, I think we actually have a fair amount of leverage.

As others have pointed out the lad was a PSG fan and we had just avoided relegation the season we tried for him last. Hardly analogous for our current situation is it?

 

FWIW I’m not saying we definitely get him ahead of Liverpool, but I’d argue we have a damn site better chance competing with them than we did with PSG 3 years ago.
 

The people selling our project to him can rightfully point out the vast improvement that’s happened to every young player bought for our first team since their arrival at the club, and can point to that not always being the case at Anfield, particularly with attacking players in their recent history.

Say that we raise our second offer and it’s accepted then we should tell them that it either gets done now now or they can try their chances and wait for Liverpool and see if they cough up the same. It’s now or never.

Times like this we could really do with the training kit sponsor and other revenue streams getting turned on - give us a bit more financial muscle.

If Liverpool are genuinely interested and willing to pay £70m then they'll get him like, but I think he makes far more sense to us at that price than he does to them.

 

 


The characterization of that interaction is so fucking dumb. A more accurate interpretation is; we couldn’t get our top target so we’re now horning in on your deal out of panic because striker options are drying out.
