Shola had all the ability in the world, he was just made of glass, lacked confidence, had too many injury issues, never really got the chance to consistently perform in a starting role and was probably too much of a nice guy.

And he just fell over, all the time, for about 20 years.

Never known a player get fouled so much with so few decisions going for him.

Which season was Sholas prime?

When he got his 5 in 13 under Roeder he was actually really decent. Typical Shola that his best form for us was when he was at his most fucked physically and he did it while needing a hip operation.

In that CL match against Barcelona he looked world class. He have the ability, he just never really made the most of it for whatever reason.

He was too much of a nice guy as HTT already said. Can't doubt his ability, he was pretty good in one on ones against the keeper, thought he was a decent finisher personally, one of the reasons his penalty record was stellar.

But like Joelinton and Joselu, didn't really have the hunger for goals that a real striker needs. These types are quite happy to do a nice bit of footwork and pass it to someone else and see if they can score.

There's having a good game and then there's being world class.

I didn't say he was world class, I said he looked world class in that match, against other world class players. There was clearly the ability in there to do that, he just didn't make the most of it.

I remember watching him train with the 18’s at Maiden Castle and he was the same then.

He might’ve had ability but it looked like most of the time he’d smoked a few spliffs before playing. Waste of a squad player for years

There was a definite disconnect with his brain and the rest of his body. Plus his legs went at like 24 or something he had the agility of a stagecoach bus
