Has it been discussed on here that his release clause was for the summer only? Rumour that the new owners green lighted the sale rather than it being out their hands as clause had expired hence Dyche not being too happy 🤷‍♂️

Probably rubbish but seen it mentioned in some quarters.

Sure - hypothetical example

Team: Here is your contract offer

Player: Release clause with installments? I won't sign it.

Wouldn't you think with installments would get more offers ?

And how is that communicated, within the contract, in a manner that protects against clubs paying over 100 years?

Quite easily I'd imagine. Example:

Player has a £30m release clause. Contract says club must accept if (insert reasonable number of payments) is offered.

E.g. Club has to accept 5 installments of £6m,  but nothing less (6 installments of £5m and so forth)

Seems reasonable to assume that exists in many contracts

Most clubs cannot front up huge sums in one go

Basically just insert a time-limit of how quickly the money must be paid.

I don't see clubs agreeing to that.

Burnley doing at Atletico with the paperwork. "We will get to it when we get to it, thank you very much"

Wasn't there a big club famously tried to claim that release clauses just gave you the right to talk to a player, but they still didn't have to let him leave?

Man U with De Gea rings a bell?

Takes a while to sign the paperwork when you're using stone tablets and chisels.

Wasn’t it Suarez when Arsenal bid one pound more than the clause?

I think that was it yes, Suarez.

Still, they didn't sell him to Arsenal so maybe they were onto something?
