I know we like him in midfield and he's not actually a striker but surely needs must since we can't buy anyone, Joelinton back up top?

Yes against Cambridge but no against a PL team. If we don't have him in midfield we'll be overrun.

If Wilson wasn't out, would people still be so downhearted? Cambridge was an aberration, but I feel like we've been playing pretty well before that, despite some howkings.

I'd obviously love us to get some more business done ASAP, but as others have said we can name pretty much the XI that should have beaten Man Utd.

Even if we don't sign anyone by Saturday, which I'd be amazed at, I'll still be heading to the ground feeling like it's a game we should be winning with these players.

If no changes and Gayle & Lascelles are fit, I'd go:

Dubravka

Murphy Krafth Lascelles Schar Trippier

Fraser Shelvey Joelinton Saint-Maximin

Gayle

Under Howe its key Wilson or a similar striker is key.  Not for goals just the overall system

He has covid

Had no updates since last week, if he's available then would be a big plus. Otherwise I suppose we'll have to start ASM and hope he plays a bit more intelligently than he did against Cambridge.

Watford are shite. We can probably beat them even without a striker on a good day. It just feels like we've gotten ourselves into a position where we're gambling a bit which is annoying.

I think I'd go (4-2-3-1): Dubs, Trippier, Lascalles, Schar, Ritchie, Joe, Shelvey, Fraser, Almiron, Murphy, ASM

It's far from ideal, but at least he front four would have a bit of movement and commit defenders.

Did Manquillo not serve his ban in the cup tie if so could he not play LB.

Would be tempted to play something like the below, I don't really want to be playing Trippier at LB, so could see Ritchie starting as there isn't another option at the minute, and would take a risk on Anderson up front.

                         Dubravka

Krafth    Lascelles    Schar    Trippier

       Shelvey   Joelinton  Almiron

Fraser                                        ASM

                 Gayle/Anderson

These are so bad I’d have some confidence in a Steve Bruce 11 giving them a game.

The reason Bruce's teams have some semblance of a chance is that the opposition don't know how to set up as they have no clue as to what Bruce's tactics or instructions are.

Not sure on first 11 but any line up needs to exclude Ritchie.

He's so far out of his depth it's unreal. Should have given away a pen and received a red card against Cambridge.

He'll be targeted and cost us a goal if he plays at left back.

I'd love to see Dummett back in personally. We just need a solid option in that position and he gives us that.

I'm all for giving Anderson a shot if it means not taking big Joe out of midfield.

Anderson should really have been chucked in against Cambridge, would have been less pressure than a relegation 6 pointer, and we could have got a look at how he handled it. He looked game on the only other occasion he's been given a run out.
