Ideally get in a DOF who can actually negotiate a transfer would be a help first and foremost!

What would have been negotiated differently ? We've offered as much as we are prepared to, where else is there to go after that ?

There have been and still continue to be many clubs that do not have a director of football that still make signings via their recruitment teams and club executives. I doubt this is the issue we are having.

Reckon a half decent DoF Would have offered Reims an additional 10m or whatever it was for their striker if we won the Champions League?!

None of us are experts in buying footballers here but surely a competent DOF could have helped bring in more than 2 players after 25 days, especially when the target was 5-6 players (apparently).

I think for me the other players I wasn't overly fussed because the midfield is crucial. I see it as analgous to the O-Line in Am Football. Rememeber people saying Mahomes was a one off because his O-Line was dog at the start of the season. They remedied the O-Line and he's balling out. Your defence is only as good as the Midfield in front of it. IMO

Liverpool, Chelsea, Man City, West Ham, Leicester all have talented midfield's, who typically don't get overrun because they control the ball so well. I'm with ya.

Yeah, for sure. I think the position will be addressed, however, it might not end up being a player of this calibre due to the timing and our current situation (although  think we're in with a chance on this one). We just need to identify someone that can do a solid enough job to see us over the line if a move like this doesn't pan out, and in the summer every possibility will be a lot more viable.

As most of you know. I am Spanish. And I am Atletico Supporter who loves Newcastle since I was 13 or 14.

I usually follow too much international football and youth tournaments (although every day I have less time).

I don't follow him in Brazilian League (He played in Athletico Paranaense) but I started heard about him when Atletico tried to sign in in 2019. Atletico signed his teamate Renan Lodi, and get and buying option for Bruno. Bruno was amazed to go Atletico Madrid, but Atletico had never have the Money (20M per 80%) to get him and the buying option expired.

Then, he was signed for OL His firsts months was very hard because he had to acclimatize to Europe, to a new life, to another rythm.

But at the end, he improved a lot.

He is the typical '5'. We spoke before about Merino, he could be more or less similar. Not so much physical, but very smart with the ball. He could be similar to Ruben Neves

No mate, it’s Lyon.

Give it full context though.

Yes, Aulas can be a nightmare, but Lyon (like with most of Ligue 1) are not in a position to turn down good money. The only reason Reims turned our bid down was because a lot of the reported fee was only guaranteed on the back end. It sounds like we're offering a more front loaded deal which for someone like him will be hard to turn down. Lyon didn't spend a huge amount this summer, but of the €50m they recouped, how much do you think was up front? I'd wager not a lot, and they're swimming in mid-table right now so very little chance of Champions League money coming in next year unless they go on a big run in the Europa League, which I don't think they will.

There's a deal to be done here for sure, and he won't play silly buggers like Sevilla.

Should probably focus on cash-strapped European clubs. I've convinced myself that nobody in the PL is going to do anything except dick us around. European clubs competing titles or the Champions League aren't going to sell.  Lyon, Lazio, Valencia, Eintracht Frankfurt... have they got any body to sell? Still, getting knocked back by Lille.

Lyon have a Brazilian centre mid who could fit the bill.

Yeah, I saw that. But if Lille are three points off a spot in Europe, Lyon are only four points off themselves.

I saw 10th and 11th in the table and jumped to conclusions.
