Are loyalty points passed on ?

Definitely. With some pretty hefty totals that further lock in other people’s limited ability to get them and reinforce the inequality.

So grandson could have access to any away game he wants because granda went to loads of aways 20 year ago and granda has then bequeathed his ST plus the decades old points to grandson in 2026 ?

Seems fair.

Wish my granda had gone to the match instead of sitting in his chair on a Satda afternoon with a can of McEwans, tooting on his pipe and checking the pools.

Tbf around 20 points would have got you to the vast majority of away games this season.

How can coked-up young lads have accumulated any points at all when there's been no season tickets sold for 5 years ?

Either their elders bought them a kids season ticket and took them to away games pre-2021 and now they're young lads with points who can go and get coked-up.

Or they've inherited a season ticket with points.

If you're a young lad who wants to go and get coked-up at away games, but your elders aren't into football, you've got zero chance of going.

Yeah I've looked into it because I'd like to get to the odd away game, I love a sing and the atmosphere always looks great but it's literally impossible if you don't already have points to even start to accrue points as far as I can tell? I'm sure this has been discussed before and it's right that not just any Tom, Dick or Harry can go to the away games but it's a properly locked down system which is impossible to even try and enter even if you have been going to loads of home games for years.

I think the former is more common than the latter.

Also, despite the clampdown, there’s still quite a bit of going on other people’s tickets. Clearly nowhere near to the extent there used to be, but it still definitely goes on.

Why is limited memberships a non starter? Seems very obvious, easy and logical to me.

Why would any company want to stop selling something people want to buy?

Would you rather they limit memberships for example and pay £150 for Qarabag last night out of curiosity?

What if you become an age that you can go to games? Why should they have to wait so many months before applying?

Due to the amount of games this season, it’s been the best season since the takeover to be ‘building points’. Even if you started the season on zero, you could be up to about 5 or 6 now.

Could I? I've never seen any available away tickets for people without points.

Yeah, 100% the parent taking kids is more common than inheriting a ticket.

But it's still ridiculous that we've frozen out a generation of young people, who can only get on the ladder if they had elders who have also been taking them home and away since pre-2021.

We've created a nepotism fan base. People are locked out unless their families are also match going fans.

Only if you're the owner of a season ticket pre-2021.

Anyone else is locked out. You can't build points if you don't have a season ticket.

Because it destroys any loyalty they had from their existing customers. Who now find themselves unable to use the product they've historically paid for and therefore walk away, which in turn reduces demand for the product and therefore overall revenue.

Not if you built in some of the other suggestions you made the other day.

As a standalone suggestion this is never going to happen in our current predicament.

That’s not really a valid distinction between paying for membership and paying more for tickets. Money can’t justify any decision. By that logic why not double ST prices or make membership a monthly subscription or something? There’s loads of ways they could charge more but don’t because it’s unacceptable.

The point is that you give people a period to renew or buy membership so that you can be confident they are actual fans and aren’t just signing up for a specific game. And also that that can’t register easily again after being banned for touting etc.

I guess the age thing will affect a small minority, maybe you could allow child members to upgrade etc. Don’t think that’s a major worry.

True (bar the few hundred ST’s that went on sale post-takeover).

But what’s the solution? Setting aside a quota for U25’s? I think West Ham did that recently, but then scrapped it for some reason.

I also think the two transfers for “emergencies” was the clubs unofficial way of trying to allow in those that didn’t have an official route in.

What isn’t?

Whats wrong with someone wanting to go to one game? That’s all they might be able to afford. Not everyone as fortunate as yourself.

I don’t think how many memberships the club sell post the season starting is a major worry either. Any tout or opposing fan that keen you’ll find well be far more organised than buying one a couple of weeks before a fixture.

And ultimately what you'll find is that people will look at it and say, actually it's not really a product worth buying anymore. I'm a prime case example. This is my last season. My brother and nephew didn't renew their memberships at the end of last season because they thought it was a waste of time. I've got other mates/lads in work with who've had memberships in the past but don't have them now. No doubt the bots/touts will keep the numbers looking good but it's hardly a good business model.

Well only the club will know how many people sign up during the season, we're obviously speculating. It's about the principle of making sure people like opposition fans and touts can't sign up for memberships.

The cost is the same whether you buy your membership pre-season or during, it doesn't make attending a match any more or less expensive.

You might be right that touts will find a way around, or just buy 100 memberships at the start of the season. But on the other hand that kind of purchase behaviour might be easier to track and ban. And anyway, nobody is saying it's the one solution, it's just part of the measures that could be taken.

Obviously the ultimate answer is 25k more tickets, as we all know

I think a small number of ST’s being released in summer 2022 that sold out within 10 mins isn’t worth commenting on when we’ve got 35,000 that are from pre-2021.

I’d ban people from transferring tickets to a new name if someone passes away or stops going.

And if any new season tickets come up because people pass away or stop going then I’d allocate to 18-25’s as a first port of call.

I’d also ringfence a % of away tickets and allow 18-25 members to apply for away games and build up points.

And I’d do a rolling 3-5 year away points window. People shouldn’t be allowed to horde points from over 10 years ago if they’ve stopped going to away games.

Pissing in the sea, but it’s better than nowt.
