Thought this was mad, didn't know this. Pretty apt with the discussion a few days ago about the WC changing from 4 to 3 in the groups and the scenarios each throws out.

What year was that? As that's incredible.

Great site -

Still makes 0 sense to me that in 14-15 we were in 5th place on Nov 22. After a 5 game win streak where we beat LCFC, Spurs, Liverpool, West Brom and and QPR. 1 month later were mid-table and then we fell apart completely :lol:

We were in 6th place on X-mas day 13-14 and sold Cabaye in Jan and then basically won 4 out of 15, with 11 fucking losses :lol:

December 1997 we went into a home game against Arsenal almost half way through the season only 6 points behind them and with 2 games in hand. We'd also both won the FA Cup 6 times at this point.

We ended up fighting relegation towards the end of the season while they did the double and beating us in the FA Cup Final. They've also now won 14 and we're stuck on 6. :lol:

On both;

Pardew left late December and Charnley was inherently set on getting McClaren, despite the likes of Thomas Tuchel stating he would've been very interested in the job. McClaren turned us down, so Charnley appointed Carver until the end of the season to wait for McClaren to become available. Carver was incompetent to the point of overseeing a record breaking 8 consecutive PL defeats which saw us drop from being 1 win away from safety in February to having to win on the last day of the season to confirm survival. McClaren then took over after that despite his Derby side imploding in the league below and took us down anyway.

On 2013-14, we stuffed Stoke 5-1 on Boxing Day and after were 6 points off top. We sold Cabaye in January without replacing him despite the club knowing all season that he was going and we imploded, broke many unwanted records for consecutive defeats, games without scoring, 0-3 and 0-4 defeats regularly at home. An absolutely awful time to be a Newcastle fan, that second half of 2013-14.

I see Pardew only lost two more games than he won whilst in charge, but had an overall goal difference of -40.

Sums him up really, lots of backs to the wall one goal margin wins against the likes of Fulham and WBA whilst regularly getting turned over by 3/4/5 against anyone decent.

Think it was IP on here that mentioned it originally, but it blows my mind that when we came up against Liverpool in the 1974 FA Cup Final our trophy hauls were identical.
