Geordie_once_removed Posted yesterday at 13:07 Share Posted yesterday at 13:07 Good news if true. My main concern with this transfer was would the price get dragged up and the process dragged out impacting other deals, £30 million seems like a good deal for us. Like others I can see/hope Pope stays for another season as he's a very good keeper and this gives Trafford more time to settle in.

Miggys First Goal Posted yesterday at 13:08 Share Posted yesterday at 13:08 Did I not hear Leeds were interested in Pope? Sure I saw that on SSN last night.
Dan Gleebals Posted yesterday at 13:10 Share Posted yesterday at 13:10 All up for this. However, whats with all the keepers. Seriously. Trafford, Pope, Dubs, Greek + Gillespie and Ruddy. Madness. Guess at least 2 have to go from that list, most like dubs and the greek. I would keep pope, good to have 2 top keepers and keep the other 2 for training and so on. Think we could get 5-10M for Pope however?

And no you can't have all. I wouldn't give Wilson a packet of Skittles. Time to move on but thanks for your service.

Gillespie and Ruddy (or Forster/Krul likely for next season) are neither here nor there but realistically Dubs and Pope will be off this summer or next so unless our Greek God turns into a decent number 2 we're looking for an understudy for the likely England number 1 next summer at the latest. That isn't going to be an easy task at all
AyeDubbleYoo Posted yesterday at 13:34 Share Posted yesterday at 13:34 Gillespie and Ruddy are basically training assistants, and Odysseus was only signed as a PSR fiddle. Only Pope and Dubs are really first team keepers.
McCormick Posted yesterday at 13:44 Share Posted yesterday at 13:44 This guy will be a future England number 1. Great shot-stopping and very good distribution; not as good as Pope with regards to handling crosses but I’d argue Nick’s the best keeper in the prem at holding onto a ball under pressure. Good signing at a fair price imo.

Kanj Posted yesterday at 13:59 Share Posted yesterday at 13:59 See some comments about young keeps, aren't mistakes 100% common amongst them? And it's the mid 20s to late 20s development that really sets them apart?

Infinitely Content Posted yesterday at 14:44 Share Posted yesterday at 14:44 Still concerned about going with an inexperienced, young goalkeeper as our number one in such a big season. Would love to keep Pope as our number one and introduce Trafford slowly, with the ability to take him out of the limelight and have an assured, reliable counterpart. A couple of mistakes and a knock in confidence could leave us in a bit of crisis, and at 22 it is very likely those moments will come. I think he will be a quality player in time, but there's a reason why goalkeepers often look at their best in their early-mid thirties.
Peppe Posted yesterday at 15:01 Share Posted yesterday at 15:01 Nice to have a good, young goalkeeper. Just have to make sure we sell him before he becomes old Trafford...
Ellis H Posted yesterday at 15:04 Share Posted yesterday at 15:04 He’d be twice the price if he had a year or two’s more experience in the PL which is why we need him now, not later. Best case scenario is he’s really good this season, gets in ahead of Pickford for England at the World Cup and we have the best “young” keeper in the world. He’s absolutely worth any kind of gamble for that price since we’d probably get it back, if not more, if he cant get to the level we need.

Yeah, feels like his confidence went a bit last season in the prem and he admitted to being a bit moody when he didn't get his move. Probably that mental resilience, ability to move on quickly from setbacks is something that comes from experience. I know Burn's talked about that being the case with him. What Lescott and Cole are saying about him is exciting, though he still hasn't had one good season at the top level yet.
TheBrownBottle
Would be a cracking signing for me. A GK is an obvious need, despite us being able to fill a five-a-side plus subs with keepers at the moment - Pope is a good PL keeper with flaws, Dubravka had a good spell last season but is getting on and isn’t the equal of Pope. Newcastle Fan
I have no problem at all with Trafford but for me getting a GK is not a top priority, not as much as getting a new RW and a good quality right footed CB to rotate with Schar, or even a back up striker for Isak. but trust the club has an eye out for these as well. Mazzy
Really pleased if this goes through. £10M more than we could've paid last summer but he's arguably more proven and experienced, plus he's seemingly improved since then so I suppose it's fair enough. Would be a great way to start off the summer signings. I'm happy to give a promoted club that money rather than any other Prem team.

Norseman
Why wouldn’t we be able to pay £30M now? If you mean in PSR terms, that would only cost us around £0.5M this year, right?
