I wanted him gone at the time, and I got it wrong, as I've admitted more than once.

I'll doubt other parts of the club both rightly and wrongly in the future, but I'll  never doubt Howe again. (Unless he plays the same XI every week again and we end up getting 20 injuries again)

You can't blame a player for choosing Man Utd over Newcastle, but I'd be shocked if they didn't have a new manager altogether in the next 12/18 months and we'll hear the same shite again - like we have with more or less every manager they've had since SAF fucked off.

Tbf, Twitter and Facebook were rife with people saying Howe should go at one point. If you were looking at it externally and not speaking to normal newcastle fans on a daily basis, I could see how you could interpret that as large sections of the fanbase wanting him out. This forum wasn't exactly 100% in his favour either.

It's really not that simple. A large portion of your fanbase wanted Howe out last season after a poor run, and he ended up winning you a trophy and getting into the Champions League.

There's a much bigger picture than just short term results.

A large portion? Just stop man. Embarrassing yourself.

There were a lot of posters on here suggesting Howe had taken you as far as he could. A lot. I can remember being shocked at it.

Do you mean a large portion of the fanbase in here, then? Because that's very different to a 'large portion' in general.

TBF to Froggy the point was mainly about not just judging a manager on results. The bit about Howe was just to anger us.

Don''t think it was tbh. The same people who are criticising Froggy were furious that any doubts were being cast on Howe at the time.

What I would say is it was just doubts, very few of the fanbase actually wanted Howe out.

You're not alone. People on here are in denial for some reason and I don't get it. There was a fucking lot of people who wanted Howe gone, and for weeks it was a war between Howe in and Howe out posters.

From page 1629 in the Howe thread. After the Chelsea defeat.

It wasn't at all. I think it's coming down to the definition of "large portion." That doesn't mean majority. Every page in the Howe thread around that period there were 2-3 posters who either wanted him gone or expressed concern that he wasn't the right man.

I get the attraction of Man Utd from a historical prestige POV. And they'll be better next season than last obviously.

But surely Sesko has to be looking at Isak and seeing what Eddie Howe has done with him to unlock his full potential and thinking I want some of that.

Meanwhile Man Utd continually ruin (perhaps too strong a word but still) the careers of most who go there.

He'll back himself to deliver I'm sure and think he's better than those who went before him (part of an elite sportsman's mentality) but that very much remains to be seen.

Footballers are dumb. Dumb and greedy (usually not helped by agents).

Man Utd has been a graveyard for footballers post SAF. They've signed numerous young talents (U23).

Zaha, Shaw, Memphis, Bailly, Pogba, AWB, James, vdB, Pellistri, Sancho, Malacia, Antony, Højlund, Ugarte, Zirkzee are players who have underwhelmed or completely flopped.

Shaw has played well for 2-3 seasons out of 11! Still at the club.

Martial, Dalot and Amad are 3 of the few who have offered some genuine value. And even Amad was close to flopping until ten Hag was sacked.

Yoro, Dorgu and Heaven need more time to be assessed. Early days.

On paper, it makes more sense to work under Howe. A manager who has somehow even brought Jacob Murphy's game on to new levels. But that's not how things work, unfortunately. Sometimes players take calculated career steps like Haaland did.

I see this forum as your fanbase to be fair. All the guys I've met in real life are sensible and I don't remember any of them wanting Howe out, and we talked about it as I was with them after the Brighton defeat.

But the week after in the Howe thread there were pages and pages of people arguing for and against Howe. That's all I meant by large portion.

Well whatever, the point is that it’s not the main point and it’s also not worth talking about.

I was trying to help you

Didn't even mean it in a bad way. I think Howe is brilliant.

Also very similar to Chelsea.

Both clubs can take a gamble and if it fails move onto the next gamble.

Whereas we in a situation where we are buying him as our new number 9 and would be more patient in his development and have limited funds to buy an alternative next year.

Can we all agree to stop making transfer threads until the player has actually signed? It will save a lot of heartache

Lets just shut the forum down until the villa game, then close it again until the next match.  It can reopen as normal on 1st of september.

As long as it doesn't interfere with any Traitor's games this gets a thumbs up from me.
