I mean, for every £10m extra we bid for another striker, surely we start adding that to Isak's value?

 regrettably the price rises have to be passed on to the consumers

Has anyone with genuine expert familiarity with the topic written anything about what "preparing a bid" means?

I'm sure it's all ludicrously complicated, but you'd think a phone call between the right two people at each club would something like?

"£50m?"

"Nah."

"£55m?"

"Hmm."

"£60m?"

"Send it over, we'll have a look."

I'd genuinely love to understand how it works better.

it seems utterly bizarre doesn’t it

surely there is an actual conversation between club representatives. Surely you know whether or not your bid is going to be accepted or not when you send it. Surely

I don't get who in the club thinks, with our disadvantaged resources, that this is the type of decision that makes us a permanent top 4 club.

We’ll sell Isak in the next 12 month and claw back PSR headroom … as for this deal , he’ll score 15-20 goals in our system

Perfection this. “There are a lot of things on fire, here’s the bill. Thanks for your continued loyalty”

Sorloth not suited to us at all right?

Who knows. Was absolutely shite last time he was in the prem but looks to have an eye for goal now. There's a 20% sell on clause in his contract so not sure why people think he's going to be cheap?

I am sure there is sometimes logic in putting forward a bid to put pressure on, and it's a message to the player too to put pressure on to say you want to go I guess, but pretty sure Staverley just rang people up and hashed it out. You may overpay a bit now and then, but you also build up relationships for later too. Mitchell seems to have pissed everyone off and not sure current lot have changed.

We have less money than the established cartel so we need to reliably invest our resources better. I think you'd have a hard time arguing this was a 90th+ percentile decision, especially with the journey that's taken us here.

If this happens for £60m, I personally would be really happy with it. I really think he's got all the attributes to score a tonne of goals in an Eddie Howe team. Even just from his brief cameo last night, you could see a player who put himself about, was always trying to be sniffing out chances in the box, and who could finish well in different ways. I think people are drastically underestimating him / not really taking into account how fucked the market prices are. £50m-£60m is absolutely the kind of a ballpark a player like him is going for currently.
