Touch screen phones are a nightmare.

"We have been very lucky to have brought a few revolutionary user interfaces to the market -- the mouse, the click wheel, and now Multi-Touch. Each has made possible a revolutionary product, the Mac, the iPod, and now the iPhone. We're going to build on top of that with software. Software on mobile phones is like baby-software. Today we're going to show you a software breakthrough. Software that's 5-years ahead of what's on any other phone."

It's just like an iPod.

Flash version of what something cheaper does perfectly well. I'm sure someone will make a touchscreen unlock for Windows Mobile.

Last time I looked my iPod Video wasn't taking any phone calls or surfing the net.

(from the comments he's made, i get the feeling dave hates new technology.)

I love my gadgets but when it comes to phones I'm happy with my now 'old school' K800 with its 'antique' keypad. Don't need a touch-screen, don't see the point, and while the iPhone looks nice and all it'll never be worth my money. As with almost all Apple products.

As for surfing the internet, well, I've got a PC for that. Listening to music, watching videos? My 3 year old iRiver does the trick.

Can't stand Apple.

Couldn't be more wrong tbh.

Where did I say anything about an iPod going on the net or owt? My point is that this is a touch screen entertainment device that is also a phone. They've been out for years, only this one is more expensive (i'd imagine so, anyway). Just the same as digital music players.

Fuck me that iPhone is good.

Melan - If you cant afford a Maserati then its unlikely you'll ever drive one.

I'm having one though.

Trading in the Smart Car?

Still probably wouldnt be enough.

You should have a read when they condense down the features on the main site. The multi-tuch thing sounds really innovative. If its as good as Jobs makes it sound (he rarely over promises) then it will be an excellent device.

Listen, i'm not denying that the iPod is brilliant (even though i've never used one), i'm just saying that this looks like nothing out of the ordinary to me. It just looks flashier and probably costs a lot more than a normal phone/PDA combo. In fact, it looks like one of those running Vista. ;)

What is the multi-touch thing meant to do, like?

What is it that you can't stand?  That they continue to redefine technology, inovate and basically force every other

tech company to copy their devices?  Sucks being on top, doesn't it?  bluewink.gif

Instead of having three devices, why wouldn't you rather have one that does it all, better than the rest?

Ignores unintended touches and multi-finger gestures. Apparently switches off the touchpad as you put it to your ear. To unlock it you have to swipe along a line.

I think its just an iPod that makes calls and does internet basically - as ever its the design that is the real innovation. I'm impressed anyway.

Don't get me wrong, the design seems superb. I just never think the premium for that design is reasonable. I'd rather have something that wasn't quite as swish (and let's face it, it'll be nicked in no time ;)) and a couple of hundred quid in my pocket. And i'm a person that loves shelling out on daft needless gear.

Very flashy and whatnot, but unless you have a specific need for it, I can't see the point.  And that's not really a dig, I feel the same way about laptops.

A laptop gives you options, is as affordable as a desktop these days and is much more convenient. I'm getting one next time I think.
