We can't believe how lucky we are.

So far, and it is early days, we appear to have bagged the absolute perfect owner. The man has just been magnificent

pity your team are as bad as ours  ;D

Not for long - better manager, better chairman, matter of time.

cannot argue with that but time will tell maybe fat fred will see the light

No, he won't. He'll stick with Roeder until we're 10 years off the pace, not just 3. Then he'll sack him, act like HE'S done US a favour, and put some other cretin in charge.

Villa will never be in a force in the EPL because of O'neill, tbh.

Errm, right

You're saying he can get you to compete with the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Man U?

Don't be daft.

and can you honestly see us challenging them under roeder.

It will take any club currently outside of the top four many years and lots of investment to break into that top four and even then there is no guarantees of staying there. Looking at the top 4, it is hard to picture any of them falling from grace, certainly not for any sustained period. They have the brand name and financial clout to always be in a position to pay the best wages, the biggest transfer fees and to attract the best players and the best managers.

For what it is worth I think Villa will improve and do well, but not by the standards the top four have set, they'll regularly qualify for Europe and win the odd cup while also flirting with the Champions League once or twice - ala Sir Bobby's Newcastle (minus the trophies of course) - but I can't see them (or anyone below the current top four) competing for the League Title on a regular basis.

Just look at the standard at the very top, Man Utd have more points at this stage of the season then they have had in all previous Title winning campaigns, yet there is a very good chance that they could end the season runners up because Chelsea, despite not playing too convincinly this season, are just a few points off them. It will get to the point where as in order to win the Premiership, you'll need to go unbeaten or lose only 2 games max or something. For the rest of the league, that is impossible to match, even if clubs have money and great managers leading them.

The only way, a proven way, is the Arsene Wenger way but how many managers of his ilk are out there and even then it has taken them 10 years to put in place a set-up to first challenge and then stay there.

In this day and age of instant success, managers won't be afforded such time and patience, not at big clubs anyway where fans demand to be up there challenging or for their clubs to show ambition. At those clubs, the first sign of trouble and panic sets in, creating a merry-go-round of big spending and hiring and firing. As demonstrated by none other than our own club Newcastle.

That is why I think for once this club needs to lay down some solid foundations off the pitch and forget about on the pitch success until we can cope with success and sustain it, something we've never been able to do, despite spending vast sums on players and appointing big name managers.
