TêteDeMaure
Anyway, me and my friend, sick of the British Isles at the moment, looking to go somewhere in europe. Somewhere that doesn't particularly involve mass tourism, Spain, Algarve etc. Nowhere tacky/overdone. I'm already going to Paris this year, so France is a no no. Somewhere safe ish, so no whacky eastern block place. Somewhere middle price range. Nice weather isn't a requirement. Any ideas? I was thinking Berlin, but i haven't really got a clue. Any suggestions would be nice
Syrette
Prague? (random I know but I know someone who went there recently and had a good time, apparently)
TêteDeMaure
Overdone, apparently. More the 18 year old lad scene, as opposed to lass.
SEMTEX
Madrid. its amazing even if it is Spain
M4
I'm going to Budapest next month to visit a friend on erasmus over there, seems like a great place, very much looking forward to going. Spain is always nice though.
ElDiablo
Palermo is nice. Don't be fooled by it's aggresive football following inhabitants. In fact anywhere in Sicily is nice.
ChezGiven
I recommend.... Rome in Italy, its splendour and beauty are breathtaking. Oslo in Norway for a cool night out and cruises in the fjords. Budapest in Hungary for its status as the Paris of the east. Barcelona for being the best city in europe and having a beach. Hamburg for the 'reeperbahn', no idea how you spell it. Krakow in Poland for the craic and the vodka. We live on the best continent on the planet. M4
Budapest in Hungary for its status as the Paris of the east. Yay \o/ my mate showed me some photos and it looks like a really great place. ... when there's no rioting or Puskas funerals
TêteDeMaure
Really not keen on Spain like. Anyone been to Berlin? We're not the type to be wanting to spend time on beaches.
GM
Tallinn's always worth a look Dublin for the craic Moscow - not been myself yet, but mates have reported back they had a great time there Berlin? Talk to Parklife...
TêteDeMaure
Moscow would be parfait, but it's a bit of a scary prospect, as we actually want to walk around on a night time, without fear of some mad attack. Ireland is a definite no no.
GM
What about Vienna? or Bratislava?
TêteDeMaure
What about Vienna? or Bratislava? Bratislava interesting, but is it like a 24 hour never sleeps kinda place, or lively for a little while before everyone nicks off to kip at 9. ChezGiven
Really not keen on Spain like. Anyone been to Berlin? We're not the type to be wanting to spend time on beaches. Been to Berlin twice and going again in April. Its very spaced out as a city, the east is surprisingly full of lush bars and places to eat. The middle of Berlin is very modern as it all needed to be rebuilt after the war. Good place to visit.

Don't ask me Testa, I'm just googling European capitals in the vein hope I come up with something moderately useful for you!

Fancied Reykjavik, but know 0 about it, and would probably be really rather pricey.
midds
Always fancied Bilbao or Gdansk.
Greg
Tallinn is a great little city, went there for our UEFA Cup game earlier this season, top place.
GM
Bilbao is a very good shout - is that where the Guggenheim is? Couple of mates spent the past year travelling around Spain (that's proper Spain, Testa - not the binge-drinking-Anglicised-nightmare-on-sea version you dread so much!) and they said it was fantastic. Lisbon's a cracking little place as well - excellent nightlife down by the Marina area, but a beautiful and safe city to wonder around as well. Another plus, the Portuguese people are very friendly, and speak English (which is obviously the way it should be!)
Nobody
Oslo is a beautiful town, only been once, but really liked it. Otherwise, Stockholm is supposed to be a good town as well, can't comment too much on it as it's where I live like.
