The College Dropout
WMP used to run at 10k memory usage but these days ol boy feels the need to hog 90-110k of my little machines precious memory which makes it hard to run more than 3 applications fast at the same time. I've tried reinstalling it but he's still hungry. Has messing around with codecs messed it up?
junkhead
codecs, for sure
Dave
If you have one of those stupid codec packs then uninstall it. Caused me no end of problems.
junkhead
yep.. ffdshow, VobSub and some AC3 filter is all you need for viewing media
The College Dropout
You lot are swift. T'was hoping being in the Chat Forum would mean more traffic. I've removed the codec packs but there's no difference. I'd been running WMP with the codecs for a long time aswell. Could it be anything else? ToonTastic
What programs are running in task manager at the same time as WMP ?
The College Dropout
Nothing unusual or much. explorer.exe and firefox which uses 50k whilst wmplayer is floating between 80-120k
Dave
Just buy some more memory. Dirt cheap these days.

Beren
I had the same problem a while ago. Solution: Forget WMP, get Winamp - it's better in every respect!
Dokko
I had the same problem a while ago. Solution: Forget WMP, get Winamp - it's better in every respect! Winamp used to be quite shite, haven't used it for many years. Downloading it now as am sick to death of WMP.
Wullie
I love Winamp. Don't know why anyone would use WMP for anything other than burning/ripping or DVDs.
Dave
I like WMP, for the simple reason that it works for me. I don't have mountains of mp3s, don't need plugins or any of that stuff.
Dokko
Have you compared WMP to Winamp song for song? Just did, wimap still sucks. It cant control bass reproduction properly, is loose and unusable for me. Stuck with WMP then.
The College Dropout
So no solutions for WMP? Guess I'll have to try Winamp
