ok this in particular really winds me up about Newcastle have some great individuals look at them and pretty much all played at really good clubs.  but as a team we struggle string 3 passes together, or even move into space.  the fundamentals of the game, gone on for far too long.

look at arsenal, man utd even Spurs and there is plenty of movement creating havok in backline creating space.  Our played seem to run a few yards stand next to there marker retrieve the ball pass it back.. then HOOF!

Don't this stuff get worked on in training..seriously Dyer passing aint improved since he has been there !  Arsenal youngsters can do it, AZ Akmaar can do it.. surely this is the stuff that has to be worked on in training.  To be honest think we are just lacking a continental coach. :undecided:

Some of our short passing last night was better than I have seen us play in years.

We do have a tendancy to play stupidly adventurous passes instead of the simple one though, resulting in loss of posession. There is a lack of thinking and the easy options should be taken much more often.

I think last night it got to a stage where we wanted to showboat rather than play the simple passes though, which is understandable given the position we were in and the excitment the players were probably feeling. However its not fully forgivable as it was ours to finish last night and the door is still open for AZ.

Bramble is a good example of our passing problem. He made ONE good long pass once, and fromthat point thought he coudl do it every time, meaning we lost the ball time and time again, putting more pressure on himself and his team mates. His short passing is usually good, and if he is a good phase of the season, he can start soem decent counter attacks.

We are a far better team when we concentrate on intelligent passing rather than trying to pick players out from miles away. Especially when we had Ameobi up front, who is clearly coated in teflon.

We don't have many players with brains and technical skills so will rarely produce a series of passing and movement play within a game ala Arsenal or Man Utd, and while this can be coached, in order to do that however you need to work with the team every day, every week, every month and Roeder has been unable to do that since day one really, hence our inconsistent and flat performances.

Reading are a perfect example of a team with limited ability but because Coppell has been working with pretty much the same team day in day out for 2 seasons now, they are well drilled and play a smart passing and moving game.

Playing to one's strengths is also important, no point in asking Dyer to switch play for example because he doesn't have the passing skills to pull such a pass off, so short, sharp, incise passing is the key for many of our players, who are pacey, nimble and have a good low centre of gravity to turn (Parker, Emre, Owen, Nobby, Milner, Dyer, Martins, Zoggy).

That is what SBR did with his team, made them play a quick and short passing game, with a direct focal point in attack (Shearer) to play into and around.

That's what Roeder needs to do to get us playing up to scratch. He can only do that though by working with the players in training on a daily basis over time.
