You could try downloading a programme called Ad-aware which will scan everything and pick up your spyware which you can then delete.

When you get those messages pop up on your screen, don't click on them as they are a con anyway and are probably downloading more spyware or perhaps even a virus or a dialler onto your computer.

If you go to www.computeractive.co.uk and click on downloads, search for AdAware SE and it should come up with it for you to download.

If you need any more help, just ask.

Crikey! That is one long list! If you have msn Plus, that also causes trouble and downloads a lot of spyware onto your system. My cousin had msn plus and it totally knackered his computer up with the spyware and other things it installed!

If you go to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/search.aspx?displaylang=en and click on the download which is number 4 on the list, called "Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool" and download it, then deep scan your system with it, then it will sort out any viruses that are on your computer. It will tell you what viruses it has detected and removed when it has finished.

yeah, thought that was causing bother, just opted out now back on original msn, still getting this thing on toolbar, something to do with spywarequake, i've ran spybot search and destroy, that cleared up alot, but this is still there.

Well I would never have msn plus as too many of my cousins and friends have had bother with it. Glad you've taken it off now.

I would run a virus checker if I were you just to be on the safe side, as it could be something. I got a virus on my other computer once and it wiped my entire hard disk so I am really careful with everything now as I lost a lot of important files.

Do you have the programme called AVG? That is a good protection for your system as well.

I have just searched "spyware quake" on Yahoo for you and found this website: http://216.109.124.98/search/cache?fr=fp-tab-web-t-1&ei=UTF-8&p=spywarequake&meta=vc%3D&u=virusinfo.prevx.com/viruscenter.asp%3FGRP%3D4812000012&w=spywarequake&d=Tvd0GBbfMn5a&icp=1&.intl=uk

Hopefully that will be of some help to you. It is a virus and you will need to get rid of it. :(

PS. I would not necessarily trust the download on the website that I gave you either for getting rid of this virus, is always very difficult to know which places to trust!

But this "SpywareQuake" thing looks like its a definite virus as several websites I have looked at say that it is.

gonna try the download, here's hoping. if it works ur my saviour. tried running norton anti-virus but finds nout.

I think that I read that this particular virus stops Norton from working properly, so that might be why.

The first website I gave you for the Malicious Software can be trusted as it is from Microsoft, but I would be wary of the downloads from the second website where it is explaining the virus, you have to be careful what you are downloading!

Try the Malicious Software Removal Tool first and let me know what it does. :)

Guest Snoopy

done that microsoft one, picks up nothing though. ive tried about every antispy going. picked up a few things but this still persists.

Hmm, this is weird. The Microsoft one cleared my old system perfectly for me, but perhaps this is a newer virus that needs a certain programme to get rid of it.

I really don't know how to get rid of it if the scanners are not doing anything to help. Have you tried to delete it from the "Set program Access and Defaults"?

Do you have AVG?

If you go onto Yahoo or Google and type "Spyware Quake, help" or "Spyware Quake, removal" there is a load of helpful webpages come up about it, so before you do anything drastic, check some of them out first.

Some of them have step by step guides of how to get rid of this crap!

You have a trojan... Shouldn't take much getting rid of though.

First, copy and paste this post into notepad and save it on your desktop so you can access it later.

Download killbox from the following URL and save it to your desktop: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/spyware/KillBox.zip

Restart your computer into safe mode by continuously pressing F8 as your system loads.

Open killbox.exe and click "tools" > "clean temp files". Then make sure "delete on reboot" and "unregister DLL before deleting" (if not greyed out) are ticked on the main screen.

Click on the text box, and paste in this address: C:\WINDOWS\ALCXMNTR.EXE

Press the delete button (red hexagon with a white cross).

DO NOT RESTART YOUR COMPUTER WHEN ASKED.

Open up hijackthis (make sure it's in a permanent location, such as C:/Program Files) and put a tick beside the following files, and click "fix". BE CAREFUL not to fix anything OTHER than those below:

Close all open browsers, open hijackthis, run a scan and fix:

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://uk.red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/btyahoo/defaults/sb/*http://uk.docs .yahoo.com/info/bt_side.html

Other than that, the logfile's pretty much clean. You can fix the following as well if you like, but it's not a necessity:

O9 - Extra button: BT Yahoo! Services - {5BAB4B5B-68BC-4B02-94D6-2FC0DE4A7897} - C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\common\yiesrvc.dll (file missing)

O9 - Extra button: Messenger - {FB5F1910-F110-11d2-BB9E-00C04F795683} - C:\Program Files\Messenger\MSMSGS.EXE (file missing)

O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Windows Messenger - {FB5F1910-F110-11d2-BB9E-00C04F795683} - C:\Program Files\Messenger\MSMSGS.EXE (file missing)

Finally, run a trojan scan with a-sqaured scanner (http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/download) to be sure, then post another logfile.
