2 away draws and a loss to Chelsea?  That's not bad

Aye, i agree, not Jones biggest fan after seeing how he set up the team in theese 3 matches but still the result of 2 points in thoose 3 games is 2 more points than i think we would have had under Bruce

  2. My main gripe with tactics and formation is that we are playing joselu and diame, it is understandable to sit back and try to stay compact, but i feel like having merino and gayle instead of the two i mentioned would give us more time and chances of a counter, so far most of the time we get ahold of the ball it ends up being some sort of game of hot potato that ends up with lumping it forward towards joselu who doesnt have the pace to beat anyone there

  3. Iceland have a smaller population than Luxembourg and Malta and football isn't even their national sport.

If you mean that iceland's national sport is not football, that is wrong, it is our most practised sport so i would say it is our national sport:P even though we have had more international success in Handball, but football is nr 1 sport in iceland atm :)

  4. what is driving me nuts is that we seem to not be able to attack with pace... its like players are under instructions to hold on the ball and slow the play down when we attack

  5. Fair play to Lagerbäck for taking Iceland to the play offs, massive achievement that  Used to think he was the most boring man in football, but I quite like him as a pundit (though he's still really boring to listen to), and clearly knows what he's doing when it comes to qualifying for tournaments.

Not to take anything from lagerback but this is mainly down to the fact that we are starting to reap the rewards of the massive overhaul of our youth system/infrastructure which began in the early 2000's.

we've build around 10 indoor full sized artificial grass pitches, 20 outside artificial pitches and some 130 smaller kickabout fields at schools since then.

this has given our young kids almost 2 - 4 days a week of indoor training a week over the winter months instead of having to train outside in the cold on gravel or inside some horse stadiums like when i was younger :=)

the youth coaches are almost all professional coaches and around 60% have uefa b coaching license instead of just some random parent of the kids taking over the coaching role as i understand is the norm in some countries with the young kids

  6. Remember the days when the German team was in a mess like that - 2 years before the World Cup in the own country.

They took the risk and gave it to Klinsmann, who brought in a certan Jogi Löw as his assistant. Today, many people say Löw was the genius behind all, with Klinsmann just the one to get through his own ideas and to get it done his way.

He (Klinsmann) certainly had bulit the foundation of what we see today - a well playing, young and successfull German team.

Without Klinsmann, someone else would have come in as head coach and would have continued without making many changes.

Players like Ballack and Frings would still be the leaders of the team today.

Wonder if something like that would be possible in England, too? We all know how poor Shearer was as a manger for us but, with the right assistant manager, he could probably do some of the same....

I dont think its quite as simple as that because i think after the 1-5 loss against england they changed the whole youth training in germany so it wasnt solely a new manager and picking a younger team :) they had to make the younger guys "better" first :)

  7. Can't say I watch much Bundesliga outside of the highlights, what's his situation at Hoffenheim?

He was playing well under Ralf Rangnick, was voted the fans player of the year after only 13 games for them. Ragnick resigned in january 2011 and after that he got little playtime i think new manager uses a system where he doesnt see a future for Gylfi at Hoffenheim (he was playing in the hole i think under Rangnick)

  8. I think in the last games he should be at the top in the pecking order of current strikers we have... he is scoring, getting chances and also keeping the ball and linking it to the midfield after hoofs, with that said tho we really need a better quality forward in and also hope that ba will find his feet
