They won't. It's a bizarre story, we could probably offer £80m and they'd still tell us to do one.

Just speculating here...but won't Chelsea be one of the main losers under FIFA's new loan anti-stockpiling measure?  It might come in for July 2022.  They're looking to limit overseas loans at 8 from this year, 7 the next year, finally 6 the following year.

Chelsea have around 22 players out on loan - not sure of how many of those count (many are probably under-21's or domestic loans).

Just wondering if they're going to need to dump quite a few players on the market quite quickly.

Btw if anyone is interested we rank 17th in crosses this season, and Burnley rank 5th. That’s a very big stylistic difference .

Perhaps it's where Howe wants to get to...the Bournmouth average crossing stats per 90 mins (from the Athletic):

    2015-16 16.2
    2016-17 15.5
    2017-18 15.9
    2018-19 16
    2019-20 14.5

  3. MoneyMikeAshley is back...

"Premier League have informed FCDO that they expect to release a statement in next few hours on the sale of Newcastle United. This will confirm that PL, NUFC, and St James Holding ltd have today settled the dispute over takeover of the club by consortium."

  4. Yeah, that's a terrific article, thanks for posting it.

Can highly recommend Keegan's autobiography for more of that type of stuff - I was hoping for Ashley to have gone/takeover before starting it, but gave in last week and am really enjoying it, currently reading about KK's early days at Liverpool.  Fascinating, lots of insight about the influences that shaped him into such an incredible and inspirational manager.

  5. Yeah, just theorised it hints at a possible timeline.

Assuming MMA shut up because of impending legal action, that might indicate a rough start date for this kicking off...PL rules are that both sides then have 14 days to each appoint arbitrator, another 14 days to appoint a 3rd arbitrator (the chair), another 14 days for directions of conduct, and the chair then sets a date for the tribunal.

So, we're possibly quite far into that process.  Would assume PL are dragging it out, given the latest NUFC statement.

  6. I'm lost, what are we accusing Ben Jacobs of?

Crimes against intelligence.  Basically, Ben (erm...banned from the BBC for gross misconduct) Jacobs was proving just how far modern journalism has fallen.

Claimed that NCSL had leaked the info that NUFC has started proceedings against PL.  Just two things wrong with that:

    1) Any confidentiality agreement will be between the PL and NUFC (think it's actually in the PL rules).  The fact is, PL/their lawyers were the ones to breach that by mentioning it to NCSL.  NCSL simply aren't bound by it.

    2) NCSL say the letter they received was leaked (presume this was Ben's flurry of tweets the other day...)

Anyway, Ben is just deflecting, somehow forgetting the amount of agenda-driven info he tweets from his PL source.

  7. The letter lazily appended to the Gazette article is an old one from 6 August 2020.  Think it can be disregarded now - the strategy appears to have moved on a bit since that initial effort (EDIT: actually, looks like that letter was appended deliberately...am not sure why Liam Kennedy thinks it's still relevant)

Would hazard a guess that old letter was put together by Gordon Stein well before this latest (probable DeMarco) idea of going after the PL via the Competition Appeal Tribunal process.

Lots of conflicting info about this CAT process being put out there - there's a useful FAQ on the tribunal's website, so you can get an idea of the possible timescales:

"How long does the process take?

Cases before the Tribunal often raise complicated issues and may involve a significant number of parties so it may be difficult to know at the outset how long a particular case will last. However the Tribunal does seek to manage the cases tightly and, in general aims, to complete “straightforward” cases in less than nine months.

A claim for damages brought pursuant to Section 47A of the 1998 Act may be subject to the fast-track procedure (“FTP”). The FTP is a particular procedure intended to enable less complex claims to be brought, in particular by individuals and small businesses, and decided quickly with limited risk as to costs. In any case subject to the FTP, the final hearing will be fixed to take place as soon as practicable and in any event within six months."

My own interpretation of what's being played out here is that DeMarco knows there's some incriminating evidence in the PL docs, something that the PL won't want to reveal. The threat being made clear to the PL is that this process would be a (relatively) quick way to start the ball rolling on uncovering it.

  9. It looks coordinated to me.

Nick DeMarco retweeted it.  Mehrdad Ghodoussi retweeted it.  Jamie Reuben retweeted it.

The actual letter (not the fans waffle), sounds like the procedural starting point for a legal challenge.  I'd hazard a guess there's some strategic significance to it in coming from a third-party.  Just me guessing again (no lawyer), but there may be more weight/validity to their case since they're fronting (never heard of them) as an affected party (e.g. the fans).  And perhaps being involved in that course of action prevents those challengers from other legal actions, freeing up DeMarco to hoof them in the balls from another direction.

  10. Or...the leak came from the PL when whatever doc they've signed was handed over.  Remember, up until then, there weren't really any substantial leaks from either side.

Someone at the PL - outside of negotiations until that point - could easily have tipped off the Sun, and that's when the deal suddenly became public.

  11. I noticed this on another forum and it made for quite interesting reading about Ashley's plummeting finances (I know fuck all about this sort of thing myself, but it would explain the reported collosal asking price for NUFC).  Could all be bollocks, like most forum ramblings of course :)

He owned 100% shares in his company "Sports Direct" he floated the company and sold 40% shares i.e raising his personal books by £700 million Cash, he made promises to spend £100 million on the brand as part of the floatation so that is down to £600 million, then he has the arduos task of getting at the cash without being penalised with TAX. As he retained 60% of the shares which at the time were valued at approx 1.2 billion, his 60% shares are now valued at £350 million, and decreasing daily.

I have heard as i work in the City that he has been short selling his own shares through a perosnal broker, that tells us 2 things, firstly it is classed as insider trading - illegal, possible custodial sentence if caught etc.

Secondly to do this with your own company to make a quick buck is like selling your granny in business terms.

He is a rich succesful man, he is not skint, but his net value has plummeted and it will start to bite hard in 6 months, we all know this christmas is going to be very much the 2nd winter of discontent for the majority, not many tills rattling and we will see desperation in the january sales.

So by then his net asset value will probably be less than 1 billion, even if he has invested wisely, there are not many people who have not taken a hit even on a good investment.

He will sell NUFC for £300 million that is the word in the City, and it is predicted it will be done in the next 8 weeks, not sure who to myself but that is the city talk.

When all is said and done, he has done NUFC good and bad, he has stready the club financially but rocked it hard in other ways, i always thought it would be short lived, but not this short, i think he had a 3 year plan not 16 months, so he is trying to make up the difference in what he thought he could achieve over the 3 years with the sale price, £300 million will see him gone for sure, the Arabs are just waiting they ar enot daft they might wait until January until Sport Direct starts to shake, then they will have him on the ropes pretty much.

  12. Yup.

He's simply the best man for this football club and certainly the only one who will satisfy the majority of our supporters.  'Tweak' the system by giving him final yay/nay on transfers, keep the scouting system, and hoy whoever it was who he doesn't get on with out of the door.  Then get him and Ashley necking pints at the press conference.  Job done, the fans have their favourite manager back, Ashley gets credit for sorting it out, turmoil over.

  13. Can everyone PLEASE stop quoting the bookies as though they know owt? When this news came out, loads of people placed bets, and so the odds go down. It really is that simple.

If I went and whacked £10k on Ince his odds would drop like fuck too.

KK's odds started dropping at 4pm today, btw.  Anyone know what time this meeting started?

  14. The key word here is ambition - and, sadly, we really don't seem to have any.

To compete at a high level in the Premiership, we'd need to line up all those important little ducks; finances, ambition, teamwork, and quality (there are probably more - I really can't be arsed to think about them all).  Anyway, it's not about getting one, two, or even three of those aspects right - we need all of them singing sweetly to succeed.  Fail with any one of them and it's not like there's just a small part of the puzzle missing...the whole thing is broken.

If we don't have ambition (and the rest), the simple truth is we will either tread water with the rest of the also-rans in mid-table mediocrity, or begin to slide down the table.

Transfer-wise (pun intended), we've pretty much broken even over the last few transfer windows.  Although we do now seem to be doing some sensible things (trying to cut back the wage bill, picking up transfer bargains, etc), our squad depth is paper-thin.  I really do worry that Ashley sees this purely as a business and nothing else.

But it's not, it's football. It's about passion.  It's about Newcastle United.  Anyway, it's not Ashley's team - it's my team, and your team.  And we'll be here long after Ashley has recouped his cash and moved on to another business.
