Benitez was a bad appointment for Everton from the start, not even withstanding the Liverpool connection. I agree he more than likely would've ended up keeping them up but unless a club totally buys into him, trouble follows. When he goes to clubs, as soon as he has a disagreement with the CEO or DoF it reaches the press. That was good for us and we loved it because Ashley (and Liverpool because Hicks/Gilette), but that follows him wherever he goes. At the first point of a disagreement he'll try and dismantle the existing setup and bring people from within his inner circle in.

And with so many clubs operating with a DoF model or similar, I can't see him managing at the top clubs again unless he decides he can work in that setup.

    That's not true.

    Everton yes

Newcastle yes (though Ashley lied to him time and time again) - Fans loved him

Liverpool yes (but Liverpool'd have gone under without Rafa sounding the owners out. H&G loaded the with a massive debt) Fans loved him

Inter perhaps (but it's complicated) - Fans loved him

    Chelsea no

    Real no (1st + B team manager)

    China no

    Valencia no

So it's not "whenever he goes"

  2. After the way they've treated him, I'm glad he's getting away from that toxic lot. Only 21 year-old and getting threaten on the street post-match bcos the kid the nerve to commit a free-kick

REMINDER - you cannot know what it means for our FFP situation without knowing the contract length.

    5 year deal - 8m/yr in FFP

    6 year deal - 6.7m/yr

    7 year deal - 5.7m/yr

    8 year deal - 5m/yr

Wait until we see the contract to know for sure.

Didn't UEFA recently changed the rules to max. 5 years because of Chelsea?

  4. The big lad in full pantomime villain mode today

Looks happy enough to still own the club there like.

Looks happy enough with a lucky point that keeps us away from a relegation fight which might stall the club's sale.

He is attending all our matches now, as it is his "last hurrah".

He desperately wants the deal to go through soon, but he knows he will 'miss it' on some level, so is attending matches as the owner, while he can.

    I understand that, human nature.

Just let it go fella. Let it go

  5. And yet Abramovich's relationship with Putin is just fine............

Not 100% sure, but I think it was introduced after Abramovich bought the Chelsea.

You don’t get to become a Russian billionaire without the approval of the Russian government.

Sorry mate, quoted the wrong post. I was replying to one of the ODT posts. ODT didn't exist, when Abramovic bought the club.

    Edit: implemented in 2004.
